Thanks for your honest and fresh report. Sorry that you did not have a good time. Many people refuse to due honest reporting if it is negative. And others like to make it seem like you did something wrong if you had a bad time. I have been going to Sosua for 3 years and you are right about Sosua being a dump. I remember Sea Breeze Hotel when it was closed up and in need of a renovation. Last October I took a look at one of the rooms in Sea Breeze. I was very disappointed. The outside of the hotel was renovated but the inside looked like crap. Many mongers take the approach that they only need a four walls and a bed to be on a monger vacation. Then when they write a report, the report does not accurately describe the quality of the hotel.

Recently I have posted about how chicas are driving the prices up. Guys then responded (on another board) by saying that they go to the campo or Santo Domingo and yada yada yada. I agree with everything that you have said in your report. However I will still be returning to Sosua in less than 2 weeks.

This is because I have the experience to know where to get what I want. But I still call it like I see it. Just because I know how to avoid some traps and problems it doesn't mean that the problems don't exist.

I also agree with your assesment of Sosua, but I would suggest that you use Sosua as a home base but be open to branching out from there. Theres lots of P4P in neighboring towns like Caberrete or Puerta Plata and beyond.

I always rent a car when in the DR and there is lots to be had outside of Sosua.

DR girls are all about the money. Extra’s for everything. I guess one pop is standard, even if they agree to more.
Push up miracle bra’s make girls very deceiving. Out of about 100 girls I talked too, only 1 did not have a kid. Most had kids when they were 14 to 16.
I did not see any 9.5 – 10 chicas. I saw maybe four or five 8 – 9’s.

Arrived in Sosua on Thursday afternoon for a short three day, two night stay. The reason I chose Sosua, Dr was its convenient location (3 hour flight from Atlanta) and the reviews I had read about this mongering heaven.

Hotel: Stayed at the Seabreeze hotel. Chose this hotel based on review of their website and recommendations from other members. I will not recommend this hotel to anyone. It is a dump. Probably one of the top one or two worst places I’ve ever stayed at. This hotel supposedly has been recently renovated, but they must have missed my room. I noticed on Friday evening that I had water in my floor of the bathroom. I didn’t think much of it, but on Saturday morning when I went to the front desk to get a couple of towels I told the front desk clerk about the water and she did send a maintenance man right away. The water was coming from a leak in the upstairs bathroom toilet (not a good thing). The one good thing about this hotel is the security. Chica’s must (or supposed) to have ID and leave it with the guards in front. Chica’s must be escorted out by you to the front gate.

Thursday evening I went to a few of the bars on the main drag (Pedro C.). One dark skinned mid 20’s beauty was having a drink with a girlfriend and two gringos. Thanks for the report. I've only been there once but had a great time. A couple of the women I was with never asked me for money before hook up and spent the night. I gave them what I felt like giving them and they were happy. True there is a lot of mother's out there but don't be shy to ask them to see their body. Lastly, IMHO you are on vaction, why worry about bargain basement prices with women when you're only there for a short time and when you are really quibbling over a few dollars. Your trip report is very honest and very typical report of newbies to the SEWER, The language barrier was the biggest issue and while its getting harder and harder you STILL can find miniscule diamonds in the rough. Could someone recommend an Verizon or AT&T model that I could find in the store here to use in the DR?

My understanding is that there is CDMA coverage in DR and Verizon phones may be "programmed" to work there (I haven't tried it myself yet.)

What definitely works are GSM phones. According to http://gsmworld.com/roaming/gsminfo/cou_do.shtml GSM 1900 band is supported by all carriers.
Do NOT buy prepaid phones from Wal-Mart and Best Buy and the rest, and do not buy anything from AT&T stores - all their phones are "locked" to a specific carrier.
I'd second earlier suggestion about buying a phone on ebay, craigslist or any number of web sites. Make sure it's UNLOCKED and has at least 1900 band, or get a quad-band to be 100% covered. Most Motorolas are "affordable" and quad-band: 188, 5xx, Razr, etc.

The byatch was right in what she told you at least to my knowledge. Verizon phones don't use sim cards (except the Blackberry Storm can). Just go on the internet or Ebay and do a search for unlocked phones you will quickly learn what phones you can use and not use. But basically if it takes a sim card you and it is unlocked you can use it in DR. I say this because most of todays phones are quad band and can be used around the world. I used a motorola L7 last time I was there. I lost that phone so I will need to buy a new one for my trip next month.

PS they can also unlock most phones for you in the DR. But you are better off buying one already unlocked.
