First of all, sorry for my poor english.

This is my first post, I went on DR on May 2004 and stayed at the hotel New Garden of Sosua for 15 days.

I have some advices to guys who wish to travel there:

1. it's very useful to learn basic spanish, it may help you a lot with local people, especially for talking to girls.

2. Don't walk on the streets with cellular phone, passport and camera, there are many girls freebies, pro and no-pro that try to rip off you when they approach you with sex proposal.

3. Bring always few money to mongering and for drinks. For one day it's enough 2000 DOP (about 37 Euros).

4. The best places to mongering are in the main street, from Plaza Sosua to beach. Ignore the guys who offer you girls or drugs.

5. If you pick up a girl, you have to contract very hard with her, in spanish, and remember: never exceed 1200 DOP (23 Euros) for 2-3 hours.

It's possibile to pick up a girl for whole night for 1500 DOP (28€) and to stay with her in the hotel. But it depend from you spanish skill.

I speak spanish very well and I had beautiful times there!

Just get the number of the taxi that took you there then call him when you are ready to go home. If he is busy he will send another one. You have already established a price. I usually acummulate a few taxi numbers each year, come in very handy and once they get to know you they usually give you a good rate. If you just flag down a taxi late at night they have you by the balls as far as price goes as they know you want to get home and do not have many options.

A late taxi is alway's aavailable close to the clubs latinos and classico . It's 15$ or 500 pesos for the ride .

40 usd is round about 1400 pesos depending on the exchange rate. Graduates from the police academy don`t even make 5000 pesos per month and risk their lives pretty much on a daily basis. Teachers earn shit money, hotel employees...
I don`t feel sorry for the girls, there are alot of jobs which pay 4000-5000 pesos per month but of course none of these girls want to do these kinds of jobs.

The question of money and comparing it to other jobs often comes up.
The typical wage in the DR is indeed crap, which accounts for the rampant corruption in the police, etc.
It is bare subsistence, enough to stay alive, but no more.
Many girls squander what they earn, but some do it to try to get some money saved for a house, etc, which would be impossible on a normal wage.

Of course a sex worker earns more than the average wage.
They do everywhere don't they?

Even in the US, a teacher, a cop, a fireman, even a doctor don't earn as much in an hour as a hooker,
- but they don't have to give you a BJ or let you screw them.
When you look at it, a sex worker earns her money.

But a trick off the street I wouldn't even fuck if that is all she feels she is worth. Fair pricing will get you a freebie, because she will respect the fact that you didn't lower her dignity. You hit the nail on the head. I tell my boys about that every time we go down. They complain about the price is to high. 2000 pesos for a TLN is not a bad price but as high as I go, that's just me that's less that a $100 usd try that in the states and see waht happens, we go to the club and drop more that in one night. What is The public carro you talk about? Is this the dominican custom whereby an ordinary driver in his car picks up people that are going the same way as him for a small fee?

It's a taxi for dominicains . It has a puerto plata sign on top and they go from Samanata to Puerto Plata (thats how far i have used them) and it's less expensive than the regular taxi .[/QUOTE]

From CABARETE to Sosua there are a few ways to get there .

The best way is the guagua (cost 20 pesos)
Second is a public caro (taxi puerto plata) (cost 40 pesos)
By motoconcho (no idea what the cost is but i think it's a bit dangerous)
And by regualr cab (cost 500 pesos)

I just noticed that Google Earth has finally upgraded their Sosua Images up to the HI RES where you can see individual buildings and street detail. It's been a while since I looked so it may have been up for some time. I'm finding it extremely interesting to finally see how everything is laid out. Maps have been very limited and distorted.

This should be especially useful for Newbies. It would be nice to see these images annotated with streets/hotels/bars/ etc. Even as they are you can now provide exact Lat/Long. coordinates for any location in the area and exact distances.

PS. they did Boca Chica too.

No I was in New York, I was in D.R. in April, and i'm going back in November for 13 days. I think at one point we trying to meet up with each other on one of my trips.
