It might've been a shakedown.
Or, it might have been true, and $2k was the cost of getting caught fucking up and making it go away. Either way, he shouldn't have put himself in that position.

I think we can all benefit from reading the story . What NOT to do is a very important aspect of mongering.

Even though I allready new this when I heard this story it still shocked me and sent chills down my spine as to how vulnerable a tourist actually is in the D. R.
I left out a little something that shoked the guy who was giving me the details about this incident. Turns out he said that the chica was with her lawyer and a cop and that the lawyer had what he called a generic suponea that didn't even have this guys name on it.
I explained to him that this is not that unusual and is done here in the states as well it is called a John Doe warrant here where it has only a description on it.
I only know what I was told by a friend of this individual and felt it was something that I was obligated to pass on to any fellow mongers now in the D. R. Or going to go there. Something that we all should aware of.
Another guy has stated that the chicas down there are alll talking about how much money this chica got. These other chicas may start soon getting ideas as well as some lawyers as well if you know what I mean.
As I said this is the "SECOND" such incident I know of this year and the first one the charges made against the guy were totally bogus and yet he still had to pay more than the $2000 that this second guy did to settle the matter
Anyone that has any more info please feel free to share.

The victims mistake was probably allowing her lawyer to "arrest" him and take him to to Puerto Plata Jail, he should not have went (was not physically forced to go) and called local contacts and Sosua police from the restaurant. Nothing more than another tourist shakedown, the pics only started the process.

Hey guys,
I just got back from Sosua and a down there was sitting in a restaurant having something to eat with a few other mongers and a chica with a lawyer and cop with her walked over to him and said "thats the guy that posted my picture on the internet"
The guy was taken in and booked and put in jail where he had gotten a little roughed up.
Turns out the chica and her lawyer wanted $25, 000 U. S. To drop the charges. The guy got a lawyer and from how I heard it went down was that he was advised that he could fight it but that his case would not come up on the courts calendar for 6 months to a year and he would have to wait it out in jail.
Heard he settled the matter with $2, 000 U. S. For the chica.
Major scam! This is the second such incident that I've heard of this year

Yes I remember clearly we spoke one morning. We talk about ISC site.
I remember asking you about SD. I was planing a trip down that way.
You said you were from the maple leaf country. This was in Febuary.
At the time you were staying at the garden while I was next door in an apartment at casa valeria.
Both The Palms and the Trade Winds are just up the hill from the car wash.
The Trade winds is the better of the two. The owner of Britannia has for or
five apartments for rent at the palms. I am renting year round for 350 monthly.
I plan on having a better look at the Trade Winds to buy later.
For me it is not all about the chica. I can walk down the hill from the palms and end up at the gym. that is on the main drag (pedro C.) inn ten minutes I am at passions. another ten minutes I am at the beach.
At nigh you take motoconcho down Pedro C. Take a right and you are five
minutes away. It is not for eveyone. I am living there now. I am Captain of a ship. After a hundred days in Nigeria, Walking in the small village of Sousa is a pleasure.
Hope to see you again soon. I arrive June 7th. and depart to Nigeria the end of July. All the best!

I'm really interested in a condo/apartment for my next trip. The centally located hotels have alot of plusses but my biggest complaint is the noise. Is it any better on the outskirts in that respect? Thanks. Funinthesun
