People are trying to tell you change just enough money from the airport to get you to an ATM on the outside. Maybe a little bit more in case the power is out and the ATM are down.

ATMs and walk in Banks are the best way to go for getting superior currency rates than all other options. The DR Bank uses a contracted rates schema with the targeted US bank. Ease of use is by far the ATM.

I would also like to know about the safes being large enough for laptops. I seem to recall a post giving dimensions somewhere.

Change your flight to an earlier one. There are usually at least 3 flights a day to SDQ. Change your flight to Puerto Plata (or Santiago). It may cost you a change fee, but it will be worth it and will save you the $40 cab fare from SDQ to the bus station, plus cost of bus and food en route. Plus it will save you time.

You could also get a taxi to take you from SDQ to Sosua. Maybe $120.

You won't get much in Sosua for less than 1500 pesos, not much less anyway. Are you sure you can afford to make this trip? Did your mother book the flight to SDQ for you without consulting you?

Bro, if we were talking about Rio I would agree, Bangkok - agree, Dubai - agree, but the little sleepy town of Sosua - disagree. Game (or maybe I'm just that beautiful) has gotten me more free (meaning no strings attached: no money, no gifts, no meals, no drinks) hookers from the bars and streets of Sosua than any other mongering destination in the world. Like my friend described it to me before my first time there....He said that it reminded him of Rio before they started making rap videos there and all the guys started going down trying to be ballers and passing out money as if it grew on trees. Many of the girls had a type of innocence and naivity unlike the infestation of hardened pro-ism that exists there now. And when I arrived in Sosua, lo and behold he was right.

I never got a chance to report on the last time I was there back in September so here it goes:

The last person I was with in Sosua I pulled out of Latinos. She was standing in the same spot for quite a while with a friend and I called her over. She asked me why I didn't like any of the other girls around. (She was specifically making an honest reference to two transvestites who were in front of me trying to draw attention to themselves from anyone who would look. After a while I got thirsty but she did not have any beverages. I told her that I had some juice and water in the refrigerator back at my room. She said she was not thirsty but would accompany me there. Next thing I knew we were back at the Europa taking showers, fucking, and falling asleep. The next morning I awoke to my cel ringing. On the caller id I could see it was one of my non-pros who was supposed to be arriving from Santiago. It would be her first time in Sosua. I was praying that she wasn't already in the lobby. I went to the bathroom and dialed her back and she said that she was on the bus and they were about an hour from Sosua.

I went ahead and took a dump and a shower then went back to the room to wake old girl up. She went in and took a shower and came back out and sat on the bed. I told her that I was going to go to the beach for awhile before I had to leave for home. I asked her if she would like for me to have her phone number or her email. She said that she did not have email and did not know how to use a computer. But she gave me her phone number. I told her that I had enjoyed her company and sent her on her way. Hate to break it to you, but it's not this complex. You make an offer, or she makes an offer (in advance) and if she/you can't agree, you pass on the deal. If do you, you take the deal.

Most of the girls are far better at negociating than the average monger going down there. They do it every day and have loads of experience. They will certainly try to get the upper hand but in the end, if the price is too high or above what they see as the value of the service, the monger isn't going to pay it anyways.

The only thing working in the favor of the monger is the pure desperation of many of the girls. They will often take less than what the service is worth. If the chick isn't desperate, no amount of "game" is going to help you.

Ok, day 2 and it is time to check out the day scene. Monday mid-afternoon and there are only a few chicas on the street. I buy a cell phone, change money and head towards the beach. At the beach it is mostly anxious vendors and European tourists eating, drinking, lounging and swimming. Hmmm, where are the chicas? Probably most are sleeping at 1-2pm. Nothing too eventful the rest of the day until I hire a public taxi to drive me to Puerto Plaza to buy some clothes (my bag has yet to arrive! ). On the way back it is 7:45 or 8pm and I ask my driver about Crystal’s. He says we can drop in if I like. We drop in and the chicas are only starting to get dressed for the bar. First to El Bohem which closes at 12am and we arrive at 11:30pm. I walk in and I must have a huge dollar bill on my forehead. The place has 2-3 customers total and there are about 18 chicas. I walk in and get the attention of 2 waiters and 14 chicas come over and surround me. I’m their only chance of making additional money tonight. This is kind of fun. Jose and I sit there, drink Presidentes and these chicas are staring at me, licking their lips, gyrating. Quality is very good. Many 7s, 8s and a few 9s. Maybe 1 or two 6s.

I watch my own private 14-girl table dance for 3 minutes and select a stunning morena named Mariela, 5’4" knock out body, flat tummy, full C-cup breasts, tight body all-around. I’m thinking she has the choice of 3000 or zero and why in the world is she choosing zero. I don’t understand. I can afford 4500 but I’m stubborn and fail to see why she won’t negotiate. I make it clear it is 3000 or nada and she stands firm at 4500. WTF. I’m a good-looking, athletic dude and am baffled why with no other options for the night she would settle for 0. I found out she "lives" on site and must pay a salida 24 hours a day (or so she says). Grrrrr.

Ok, we leave and rush over to Crystals which has just closed also and the last folks are stumbling out. A few chicas leave but several also "live" there. Back in Sosua after a pit stop for fried chicken and plantanes (3 pieces of chicken) all for 90 pesos. Best meal for the price this trip. We get to Sosua at 1:20am and I say goodnight to Jose. Classico’s and Latinos are busier than earlier but nothing like the crowd of Sunday night. I start the hunt over here. I see several very doable chicas with other gringos. At 1:45am Classico’s disco closes and a crowd exits as a pack of motorconchos wait with baited breath for a fare. I’m not seeing anything to spectacular here. I decide to follow the crowd and head over to Playa Chiquita casino by motorconcho (too long to walk). At the casino I see two 9. 5s that are taken, and then one stunning 10+ playmate material in the nite club. This girl can dance her ass off. After 5 minutes of dancing, I’m clear every guy in the joint has one think on their mind. bonking this chica. I can think of nothing else at this point. Ok Gents, now that I am safely back in the states I can relate this story in full detail. The chica, Mary, with a big rose and something tattoo on her right thigh, gives me this "are you kidding me? " response to my 660 peso/$20USD offer. I feel she is trying to game me and my defensive wall rises high and strong. She drops the money, says "Ok, ok " and walks away while dialing the phone number. Standing outside my room, she’s talking to someone, says she is at New Garden, guy is in room #4 (my room). I’m thinking, "Oh shit, the last thing I need is some crazy Dominican friend of hers to come and get crazy with me. " Now a little worried about what’s going to happen, I walk down with her to where the New Garden security guard "G" is. She complains to G, G tells me that girls in DR get paid well for service. I’m thinking "Damn G, you’re hotel security, I thought you would be on my side. " I read too many posts here about ST being 500-1000 and agree with the CrossFire who said there may be too many posts here about trying to be a cheap ass when paying for chicas.

Well anyway, for the time being I’m thinking 500-1000 is the right amount. I increase my offer to 1000 pesos (mix of US and the few pesos I have) and the chica refuses, drops the money on the ground. She threatens to call the police. Her moto-concho friend shows up, but he stays outside the gates of New Garden and we inside are talking around the pool. I ask the girl why she is being so mean, I have been honest, shared honestly about my personal life with her and I don’t understand why she is being so threatening. Besides my massaging her naked body for 90 minutes and talking with her, her total service was no BJ and 15 minutes of uninspired sex in 2 positions (and no kissing). I really feel like she is trying to take advantage of this being my 1st time, 1st night in the DR (I have 4 visits to St. Maarten).

" He is getting upset I’m trying to remain calm while my mind is having flashes of violent scenes from mafia movies. Fortunately, I have some background and training in talking with people who are very angry. I know to let them say everything they need to say and not to resist or be defensive. Thanks to this, I let him say his peace and then he is open to hearing me again. He then says to me that I can tell him anything in English because these other dumb-asses won’t understand a word we are saying. I think this may be where he wants me to offer him a bribe but I’m not clear if that is really what he wants or if he wants to use my bribing as a sign of my bad character. I tell him I offered the chica 1000 pesos and he looks surprised. He tells me the chica told him I offered 100 pesos. He says this "1 mil" to the chica and I can tell he thinks it is a reasonable amount or at least in the ball park. She still refuses. He tells me we can work out a negotiation or take it down to the police station where I will have to stay the night and then pay the judge to hear the case. It will cost at least 2000-3000 pesos for the judge to hear the case. Hmmm. What to do?

There is a part of me saying "screw it, pay the money and end this situation. " And there is another part of my mind saying "this is all a game to them, they know they don’t really want to take me to the police station, they want a little more money and they want to end it here also. " I know it is a game and want to call the chica on it but being right here is probably less important than peacefully resolving the situation. The chica is saying she wants 3000 pesos. I’m thinking that is total abuse and if we need to go to the police station, so be it. So I tell them I’m willing to go to the police station and I return to my room for shoes so I can go with them. This also communicates that I’m serious about not giving up easily.

After I come back from my room with the shoes on, the English speaking officer asks me if I’m sure I want to go with them to the station. He says I can avoid going down there if we can work out a negotiation. As I’m talking with him, there is an alcohol smell to his breathe and some redness in his eyes. I’m not sure what it completely means but it I’m clear I’m not dealing with a 100% sober, rationale individual. Also, while I chat in Spanish (I have basic Spanish) with officer #2, the chica and officer #1 and holding hands affectionately. What the Fu__? How can I get a fair deal here. Officer #2 doesn’t understand the story completely. When I tell him we were only going at it for 15 minutes, he advises me about La Capella for more endurance.

Finally, I call the chica over and offer her $60 USD (roughly 2000 pesos). She thinks about it for a bit and accepts it. I so badly want to go the police office and give her nothing and to tell her "you f-ing *****, you lying, disgusting piece of s---, but I know that righteousness and anger breed more of the same in return. I bite my tongue, give her $60 and say nothing more. I finished with the chica in the room at 4am, she showers and we start the disagreement at 4:20am as she’s leaving. It is now 5:45am (up for 26. 5 hours now), I’m fully alert due to the adrenaline running through my body. I’m am very scared and nervous and yet at the same time, I’m committed to not being totally taken advantage of by a dishonest chica.

Now, in retrospect, 3000 pesos and no argument would have been the better choice Spending any portion of my vacation in a DR jail is worth several hundreds of $$$.

I later learn on this trip that the finer chicas are looking for 2000 pesos for 1-2 hours and turning down offers for 1000, sometimes 1500 is accepted.

As to being cheap, I am there for a good time not to see how many girls i can bang (ok, 5 in 4 days but who's counting). This time I brought 50 one dollar bills and tipped everyone because I can. I tipped the shoeshine boys though I didn't get a shine, the espresso girls, the taxi drivers, the girls in La Passion. Why? First, because i can. Second, because it makes me feel good. Third, because it makes them feel good. And four, because every single one of them remembers me and smiles when I walk in the door. They ask me how things are going, direct me where i am going, stop and talk with me. I brought lip gloss from Victoria's Secret and gave them to the girls. They were so fucking happy for a $3 lip gloss, it made me want to fucking cry. Some of you might not like it. Hey, Jones, you're spoiling them. Too bad. I see where these girls live and what they have to do for a living. For the time that i am with them, I am going to make them happy in order to make me happy. (No, i don't over pay for service).

Good for you. Do what makes you happy. There are a lot of outspoken people in these forums that will nickle and dime the girls to death. In the end, all that matters is that you're happy. You don't have to justify anything to anyone.

What you may lack in mongering experience you make up in being a human being. They live a tough life. Every time I see a hurricane rip through that island, it hurts. I got to know a lot of people there. They will never know the good life we have. They'd like to though - that's why they risk their lives to raft over to PR.

As far as going there to have a good time, you've already learned how watching someone's reaction to a small act of generosity can make your day too. We may be "mongers", but we don't have to lose our humanity.

We do forget they are human beings with the same basic needs. Their circumstances put them in the position of having to sell their bodies for money. That doesn't mean we can't treat them with a little more respect and compassion. If something makes the girl feel good and it's not a problem for the monger, more power to him.

Imagine what it would be like if we switched sides. I know I couldn't do it.

Dammit man. You can not negotiate according to hearsay. The right thing was to negotiate before leaving the bar. But since you didn't, your only hopes of salvaging it was to say, "This is not my first time here...," not "I have many friends who visit..." They could give a flying fuck about what your friends are used to paying or what someone else told you you should pay. It is what they want YOU to pay. If you have inside knowledge as such that the forum gives you, then when in Rome you need to appear as if it is first-hand knowledge from your own experience. You need game!

Hate to break it to you, but it's not this complex. You make an offer, or she makes an offer (in advance) and if she/you can't agree, you pass on the deal. If do you, you take the deal.

Most of the girls are far better at negociating than the average monger going down there. They do it every day and have loads of experience. They will certainly try to get the upper hand but in the end, if the price is too high or above what they see as the value of the service, the monger isn't going to pay it anyways.

The only thing working in the favor of the monger is the pure desperation of many of the girls. They will often take less than what the service is worth. If the chick isn't desperate, no amount of "game" is going to help you.
