I plan to be on the mean Sosua streets next week. Couple of days in SD and a few days in Sosua. Busting nuts but not eating buts.

Mongers who show no respect to the locals, will never get respect from the locals, and vice versa.
In my experience, things go badly when a monger (usually inebriated) drama queen, meets a hooker drama queen.
They'll wake up the whole neighborhood!
Most visitors to Sosua manage to get by without endless confrontations with bad hookers and police!
(As usual IMHO and YMMV).

That a monger may make himself a target by giving into a chica. That chica can inform other chicas about how they got over on you. I get it. A guy could be targeted. So what's a monger to do? I say get back on your bicycle and be prepared in case it happens again. A guy can always handle things differently. He's not necessarily locked into having only one option for handling trouble.

The way some guys deal with it, is by cutting their losses rather than extend the drama only to end up feeling more miserable after the encounter. Cutting ones losses early is not always about avoiding an encounter with police, but about peace of mind. Whatever works to get rid of a troublesome chica quickly, sometimes that's the best course to take. Much easier to put that encounter behind you and move on. If he gives in, he can chock it up as part of the cost one may endure in the p4 p game. He just made an extra donation.
As I said before, a guy has to discern the situation in front of him. I dont advocate automatically giving into a chica just because she's challenging you. But sometimes you have to use Travel Wisdom instead of sticking to a principle. It's like Lets Make A Deal. You have to make a decision based on the unknown. You have to weigh the potentials. If getting rid of a chick costs 500 pesos, as opposed to the possibility of corrupt or opportunistic cops being called to potentially fleece you, the 500 pesos is the better option. When a guy is faced with a situation, he shouldn't be concerned about how giving in is going to reinforce chicas trying to bamboozle mongers. He should be concerned about mitigating the problem by doing what he deems best in the moment. Calling some chicas bluff just might be the initial and satisfactory course of action. It's up to the individual to figure that out.

My very 1st encounter with police was in 2008. I was driving a rental with my Dominican / American GF and a car full of people. I drove right towards a police checkpoint and rolled down my window. As soon as I opened my mouth and spoke in English the officer waved me on. Fast forward to 2016, I was driving my personal SUV and an AMET officer in Jarabacoa waved for me to pull over. I rolled down my window and spoke to her in English. She looked at me as if to say, I don't want no part of you, I won't be able to understand a word you say. She waved me on.
I got stopped by cops a few times in Sosua looking for a propina. I can think of a dozen or more encounters, all minor situations that had nothing to do with anything I did wrong. It was just cops being cops. In all my encounters they were mutually respectful and no drama. In most cases if you arent doing anything wrong or illegal you don't have to worry about being fucked up, just because you have a police encounter. As for the few that you saw get fucked up? They only represent themselves not anybody else, they dealt with the consequences accordingly. So do the folks who have had numerous encounters with police with no negative consequences or bad incidents, is that something to be proud of?

The DR like many other destinations, negotiating is part of the culture / system. So if a person is easily turned off or insulted because most chicks he runs into asks for too much, then that is a problem he has to deal with. Not that Sosua let him down.
I have heard enough reports of guys here and in person, that negotiated with a chica, where the price started off at some ridiculous amount, and they both agreed on something considerably lower. Like I said, enough guys are turned off by that. Their vibe for the chica is shot. Their vibe for the whole scene is shot. A few bad apples on a particular vacation, and everything about Sosua is fucked up. Meanwhile the reports from guys who thoroughly enjoyed themselves on their vacation, that is never considered. Like the fat girl out with her friends who never got to dance at the club like her girlfriends. The fat girl will say the club is fucked up just because she didn't have a good time. Meanwhile her GF's are willing to go again. A lot depends on the individual and timing, not necessarily the location or venue.

Posts: 271I learned to pound the pavement looking for pussy during my Cuba years but the Sosua girls are all herded into the bars by police so no stragglers on the streets.
I eventually went to Classicos and would pull a few girls out for a interview at small street café before bringing her to my room.
A lot of the club girls are headaches so make sure you read them the riot act before taking them home.
There are some good deals for food. The German restaurant on the highway has all you can eat buffet on Thursday - 400 pesos. Food was excellent.
There's a little restaurant across from New Garden and they have Taco Tuesday which was excellent -- 50 pesos each.
I also liked the inexpensive Dominican food served at Ricky's Fried Chicken.

Posts: 1969Don't feel that Sosua is expensive
Of course, compared to what? Manila? Then maybe.
Let's see. A budget yet still decent apartment is $25-30. An upscale condo or good hotel room $60-80. Villa or ocean view condo $90+.
Food is very cheap, IMHO. $15 for lunch, $20-25 for dinner with a couple beers. 35-40 in an upscale with a few drinks.
Pussy: $40-50ST, never had LT.
I didn't find it expensive at all.
The next mongering destination in this hemisphere with a beach (albeit shitty) is Cartagena, and it's substantially more. $70ST is not a small change. Higher cost of food, too. Of course, Medellin or Bogota would be dirt cheap compared to that if the beach is not important.
Sosua can still be a cheap paradise with a right chica, IMHO.

Granted when a guy is on a short vacation, he is expected to over indulge mainly because he is on a fixed schedule. But even for a 10 day to 2 week trip, a guy does not have to fuck or drink every single day / night. So if he budgets for a chica everyday, but he doesn't fuck everyday, he is saving money. If he drinks less, he is saving money. He has just made his trip a little cheaper. More than enough guys on vacation have told me that they don't fuck everyday like they used to. That they like the idea of keeping their money in their pocket rather than giving it to some chick, especially when they arent that desperate to get laid. In essence there are things any monger can do to make his trip cheaper. You can't lose (money), when you don't play.

So my point is, Sosua may be dead for enough casual mongers who are hoping that their needs will be met by what Sosua has to offer on their particular trip.
Others will have adapted to not relying on what the streets / clubs and beaches have to offer in terms of women. Instead they will enjoy Sosua for it's other benefits, and secure their female company from established contacts or some other form.
As far as Sosua no longer being a cheap vacation destination? Thats a yes and a no, and a it depends on who it applies to. A lot depends on who is making the assessment. More accurately. Sosua is no longer a cheap vacation destination to whom it applies to. Not everybody may feel that way. An appropriate question to ask is, is Sosua still an affordable vacation destination? Not whether it is cheap or not. I live in Sosua, and as far as I'm concerned, I think Sosua is very affordable. I have a roster of regulars that I do TLN's with. Used to give them 2200 pesos, now I give them 3000. Been doing that for a while. I think 3000 for TLN is an affordable deal. Not cheap, but affordable. Mind you, I always established regulars way before I started living in Sosua. So personally I don't have a lot to complain about, even though the scene on the street has evolved. I don't look exclusively for my talent from the streets, clubs or beaches. Sometimes a situation just falls in my lap.
In the HBO TV show THE WIRE, Marla Daniels said to her (police LT.) husband at dinner: "The game is rigged. But you can't lose, if you don't play" You won't have a bad or disappointing trip, if you never come to Sosua to play. On the other hand, for the daring, the creative, the ones who see opportunity and the glass half full, their experience and circumstances in Sosua may differ significantly. Sosua is not responsible for adapting to our budgets. We have to take some responsibility on what our finances can adapt to or tolerate. Where in the world are the cheap destinations for mongers?
