For money, are their ATMs regularly available and fair? Used to going to ATMs and taking local currency as needed. Not carrying large amounts or keeping it in the room.

Plenty of ATM's. Fair? That is between you and your bank. But remember even if you keep small amounts of money, chica proof your room.

Well. You can hit Sosua in the afternoon and you might luck out with a gem but the action usually warms up as the day and night go on- anyway. It is doable. Hotel Central on the strip will give you a room short term for 500 pesos. You should be able to find a girl. Be aware that the trip can take longer than an hour. The bridge in Cangrejo is out and the detour can get pretty bad traffic jams sometimes. If you are just looking to get laid stay in Puerto Plata and go to Blackbeards. If you have to see Sosua then you should be able to get the job done- you might spend an hour getting some advice in a bar before you pull one.

Thanks for the report. I will save the hotel name for my trip. I thought about going to bb but I couldn't find any good videos / info on how it is. I'm short on time and only have one shot at it so, I'm probably going to do Sosua. I probably plan to leave at 1 maybe 2 if I was dumb to see a girl the last minute. That should give me enough time to get back to the ship which leaves at 4. My last question is, where the best place to change money is. I was going to use dollars but I read a lot about using their money. Thanks.

Personally, I am old school. Give me cash in my pocket. Computer systems go down. Especially when you really need them to work. I learned very early to keep cash on hand at all times when in the Dominican Republic. I have had to walk across town to a Popular ATM when the BanReserva ATM closer to my hotel was not working.

So there are people who use only the phone to pay for any transaction, for example in Japan, Korea or India. They will say, whoa ATM card? Crazy!

Add to your list: Thailand. I seen it with my own eyes. I am not really seen that much in the Dominican Republic. Although I have to admit my exposure to general Dominican Society has been severely reduced in recent months.

I will be in Sosua in late September and may need to receive some funds via Western Union.

One of the hotels I was considering is cash only and I don't want to have any problems.

Any advice when using Western Union in Sosua as this will be first time using this service overseas -.

I read a few times about going into STI airport instead of POP. It makes the cost of the flight about half for me. 300 instead of 600.

Are Ubers easy to get from STI into Sousa? I just put the addresses in now, shows less than 3600. Like if I actually request one will it locate a driver to do it!?

Showed it to be a 2 hour or less drive?

And that's safe? No issues being in a car that long going throug roads and getting jacked?

New Garden has a great location but I never stay there. The noise with a kind of "music" is not my cup of tea. The place has a very good restaurant though.

I would agree with the other respondent that given the shortage of time, POP is better. However, for me, I only have one direct flight to POP per week. Do not know where you are flying in from, but for me, STI (also a direct) is always an early morning arrival. Like 3 AM and while I use a driver, do not want to be driven at night. However, it is very safe, physical safety wise. There is another app called InDriver, which is worth trying rather than Uber. If you must reach via STI, it is worthwhile sleeping at a short term hotel and start early morning. The drive time is between 2-3 hours and there are two ways to do it. Mountain road, shorter and a highway, much longer.

No idea about ATM. But others might chime in. I carry cash. Perfectly safe.

Sosua is a town where there are a lot of resident Europeans and hence there are a lot of European food, authentic Italian, German are pretty popular not to speak of ubiquitous hamburgers, as well as Dominican food. For being a seaside town, the seafood options are not particularly good.

If you are going Thursday to Sunday definitely spend the extra $300 and go to POP. Most of the STI flights I see land in the middle of the damn night -staying off of Dominican highways at night is strongly advised. I mean it- you are going to be 100 each way in a cab and it can easily take a lot longer than 2 hours. This is a no brainer. Spend the $300 - you are stretched for time to begin with.

I'm taking a cruise in a few months to amber cove. I found out that it's about 100 roughly round trip to Sousa and back to the port. We are only in port for about 8 hours. I have been watching Sousa videos for years and this is the place that got me interested in our hobby in the USA and now trying for the first time internationally. Can somebody tell me if this is a good idea. Is there any short term hotel or room I can use so I can have some fun while I'm here. I'm really hoping I can pull this off bc I'm going to Cuba in a few weeks then next year Europe's and hopefully the big daddy Thailand. So sadly the dr is no longer high on my list. So this is my last hope. Thanks.

Here is my two cents worth: In the good old days, which means prior to the INTERNET, everything happened in person. You check the goody / ies and then invite. A sane person should invite for a drink or water, that gets you an opportunity to size up the other (I wonder what they did in the pre google translate days though, but digressing). I would definitely recommend the invite for a drink as this gives you an opportunity to figure out if you indeed want to walk in to your room with an unknown entity. The good thing about online is that hopefully you know more about the person through chats but proof of the pudding is still in the EATING. That is how the saying goes the other side of the pond. If it is WINE and DINE dictated by the other party, it certainly is not worth it. But if it gives you a better buzz, I am sure most would be obliging you. I would do that only if I had an established rapport, which means not the first time.

They would be very pretty but majority short. Is Sosua still the queens of shortville. Just adding a little humor to the forum. So far swamped with online chicks. Sosua may not be for travelman but 1000's of guys can not wait to go there. It is small and very easy to maneuver. 100's of young ladies are waiting to service mongers. I have been going for over 10 years and have no regrets. Things have changed but having a couple of hundred girls to choose from is still mine blowing. I have no problem finding acceptable chicas and I am very particular. I use the pulbic cars for a 100 pesos to get to PP. You can go to beach and pick up some good action. Most girls know where you can go for short term accommodations. As far as Sosua quality being shit beauty is in the eye of the beholder. In generally Dominican women are attractive and when you have scores to choose from you can find winners. Sosua always has surprises when it comes to women. New girls are always showing up every week. It is true the higher class Santiago girls are less prevalent but wet pussy is still wet pussy.

Completely agree. IMO, there is more than enough talent milling about to satisfy the majority of travelers. I have been to Sosua 3 x and have not had any problems getting my needs met. Granted, it's not the same as Thailand, PI, or other hotspots in Asia / Europe; however, with DR being a short flight from the East Coast, it works just fine for a long weekend destination.

However the quality in Sosua is shit and it's worse during the day the time you would likely be there. If you are going to Cuba and then Europe and Thailand next year then there is no reason to waste time on Sosua.
