Pricey?
Well, to some, but I guess different strokes for different folks applies again here ans you really need to compare apples to apples. Guess you didnt inquire about a discount either.
We paid about $55 per night for our own apartment style suites. It was near everything, clean, never a problem with towels or changing linens, safe, plus it was never a problem to dip in the pool with your chicas at 3 in the morning with music playing.
Trade offs exist when you decide to stay at other places. We too were offered a slightly less expensive place to stay, but the place was out of town and we needed to rent a car to get around if we did rent it..and deal with the high cost of gas, so we just stuck to this place...it's definately convenient and you can get to everything by just walking.
$25-$30 a night? Maybe if you rented for one month or like to live in a box day to day.
Happy Holidays everyone. I hope this is useful to some, just sharing some info.

With all due respect, I'm a white dude from Florida, and when I travel to Thailand, I generally go for the darker meat. I'm not sure why common sense would dictate the contrary. I don't know of any studies that look at white men's preference in terms of skin color, so you are right, all we can do is speculate.
Best Regards

I think so too. The Palace is by far the best place to stay. John will take good care of you!

Posts: 4Places to stay in DR
My friends and I stayed in many places before while in Sosua, DR. Some were the hotels you read about in here and some were shared villa rentals or condos in places near by.
Here is one worth mentioning: It's more low key, private, and spacious. It is also conveniently located and near everything you'll ever need. We got a group discount for staying there so much. We each paid about $55 per night.

I will be in Sosua from Nov23-26, will be staying at Hotel Europa. I speak fluent Spanish in case anybody needs any help. Who will be there? Probably we can get together for chica hunting in the Thanksgiving weekend.

If you realy read about the history of your continent you should know Columbus was a first rate asshole.
I never stated that everybody must like what I like. I merely told in my posting the fact that I noticed white man prefer darker women. If you walk through sosua or in fact any other larger town in the DR you will notice this.
BTW have you ever been there?
And I say that most darker women look much better then the white women there. But THAT is MHO.

Johan claims, "most white foreign men prefer darker women" Really? Where do you get that 'factoid'? Is it because that is what you prefer, so everyone must think like you do? Common sense would tell you the opposite is true. However, after reading your childish, history revisionist tirade about Columbus, obviously common sense is not one of your strenghs.

Another crazy example is the Faro Colon monument in Santo Domingo.....
I personaly find it awfully UGLY...:-(
The former government realy thought about Columbus as some hero....who brought "civilisation"and "culture"to the Americas. And many dominicans realy beleive that crap even today.
In fact my opinion is that the guy was nothing more then a robber and a thief and a murderer!
He murdered many indian people and stole their gold etc...etc..etc...
Why put up such an expenisve monument for such a crook??
Johan.

Take a taxi from the airport to http://www.caribetours.com.do/. The schedule is listed on the website. I don't know the cost since I haven't done this. Just make sure you agree on a price before you get in the cab. Caribe Tours Santiago to Sosua is about US$5-6. A cab from the bus station in Sosua to your hotel will be another $4-5.
Or fly in to Puerto Plata (POP), just a few miles and a $20 taxi ride from Sosua.
On my first trip I had like 0 Spanish and did just fine.
Sosua is a bit like Boca Chica, only with more of just about everything and a nicer beach, IMHO.

I want to thank you for your recent trip report. I am currently planning a return trip to Boca Chica, but after reading your trip report,I may head to Sosua. My interests are much like yours,e.g. Scuba diving, and getting laid. The only doubt I have is getting to Sosua from Santiago. Is the bus available from the airport? Is there a printed schedule for the bus somewhere? My spanish is very limited, but I'm working on that.
I'll check your pics in the photo section, and hopefully I'll hear back from others on this site about transportation.
Sailor02.
P.S.would,you care to share a couple of telephone numbers?

Great report on Sosua ZIPHEAD! Very helpful for my next trip re: Plaza Europa. I've been on the edge about where to stay and you helped make up my mind. Last time I stayed waaaaay out of town, more toward Cabrete, so I didn't get a real working knowledge of the place, at least enough to check out the in-town hotels. I was mostly hanging out at the town beach during the day. Excellent mongering opportunities if you're not diving....under water that is.
Also, the ST hotel you mentioned is the CALYPSO for 300 RSD. I ended up there a number of times, whenever I need a place to play in Sosua.
Also, you've got a nice easy to read style. Hey, that's important too!
