I was not comparing anything with the publico. 30 to 40 bucks is a rip off to me. For 20 or 25 I would have booked him but since I know how to catch the publico for a 100 pesos that will be my 1st choice. The publico are toyota vans and decent. I do not mine drivers making a living but I hate being abused.

Posts: 4040How do you comnpare a car with a private driver (taxi or uber) to a publico? It makes little sense. You can get a motoconcho to take you for even less, but why would you? I respect the choice but it is not one I would make. I drive myself but that is not for everybody either. There is no wrong or right answer, it's all about what works best for the individual. So the choice is not bad, the comparison is bad.

Posts: 4040Yes you can use uber from the airport and to the airport. The taxistas pester and try to interfere with uber drivers but you can use them. To be picked up at the airport by an uber driver, on the lower level go to the end of the arrivals sidewalk farthest from taxi stand. You can also be picked up anywhere on the sidewalk in front of the departure level (upper level). $20 to Boca Chica, LOL!

Posts: 3114Taxi and Uber in SD
Some one was kind enough to give me the name of an Uber driver who was very reasonable. So I contact him and guess what. He no longer does Uber. He still drives but his rates are not eye popping. 30 bucks from the airport to SD. This is not a bad rate but it is not special. It was a bad test because I pay a 100 pesos for the publico at the airport.

It's an excellent place to get a sandwich. With several locations throughout Santo Domingo and Santo Domingo este you can use your smart phone with internet access in order to find the location nearest you. They are in google maps.
I have eaten in three different locations throughout both cities and have received consistently high quality food and drink. The service can be a bit slow. But I think the wait is worth it. And so have all my dates when we are out for a casual evening, take out or that post coital snack you sometimes need in order to recharge for that 3rd or 4th round (if you got it in ya).
Now, I'm not a professional restaurant critic. But for the misinformed a restaurant review is by it's very definition a opinion piece. Most restaurants are not casas, so most can be easily found on google maps if you have the correct name.
As far as prices how about this: $ = 500 DOP $$ = 501 - 1000 DOP $$$ = 1001 - 2000 DOP $$ = 2001 - 3000 DOP $$ 3001+ DOP.
Average prices for this restaurant: $.
Are restaurant reviews useful information? I don't know. I'm not in your head. I don't know what you know. Mr. E said someone mentioned a restaurant in a post that he checked out and liked. And Mr. E is a DR vet!
I know everyone needs to eat. I know a few of you don't live here like do. So they don't have a bevy of lovely chicas parading through their apartment preparing home cooked meals in their underwear or less.
I hope this clears the air and helps a few of you get your panties out of a knot. Some of yall need to seriously put your big boy pants on. Because you be on some of that girly man shit! Girls air their grievances through social media. Men talk things out privately.
I am a man in the arena. I know the critics don't count.
So if you are feeling a little tense and up tight. Plan a trip to get down here. Grab some sun, rum and a chica. Get you nut. And take it easy.
Meanwhile back to my regularly scheduled enjoyment of life. Just pass me the hooka!

Posts: 4040Casas in residential neighborhoods like this one normally shut down by 10 pm. Like everything else in the Dominican Republic, this rule is not hard and fast. If a group of punters are buying drinks and partying with girls they won't put you out. It's really more about when the girls decide to leave and at a smaller indie place like this they aren't going to hang around all night like the places on Pasteur. The sweet spot is 5 pm to 9 pm. That is when the most girls will be there and the door is guaranteed to be open. April will be here before you know it. Semana Santa is the third week in March I think this year so you won't have to worry about that. Let us know how you make out.

Knowledge I'm not returning until April, but do you happen to know what time that casa closes? I normally hang with known chicas during the day, and I'm out during the night.

Posts: 4040By the way, this location has operated as a casa for the past nine years. It is one of many you don't read about on this forum.

Posts: 4040It is not across the street from that business but it is on the corner mentioned originally. The front of that business faces north, as does the front of the casa. Use Betancourt and Nunez de Caceres as your navigation waypoints. Heading west on Betancourt, notice how many cross streets you pass before you turn right. The Laboratoria Amadita is a landmark (also on the map) you will see just before you turn right. Once you turn right, the casa is on the second corner and on your right. Focus on the landmarks I mentioned and ignore those I did not, and you will reach the place directly. Please let us know how you make out.

Posts: 4040That's a good question. This is how the negotiations there and most other places go:
Punter: How much?
Casa: 2,000 pesos.
Punter: I will give you 1,500 pesos.
Casa: OK, but expreso / half an hour / one pop.
So, if it must be an hour then you will have a harder time negotiating the lower price but you can do it. You know the way it goes. If it's prime time weekend night and there are other punters then we have to pay more for more time. If it's a week day afternoon and you're the only customer it's easier to negotiate lower rates.
