I've been using Duolingo for a couple of years. I do around 20 minutes a day. I also have done 25 weeks of intensive immersion Spanish schooling. And I'm not fluent yet. But I can certainly get around and do all the things I need to do, and understand most of what I hear. Not to discourage anyone, but fluency is a long road for most of us. I still want to get there, but I'm not getting any younger and the only thing that would help now would be to live in a Spanish speaking location / situation, as in all Spanish, no English.

I like to use Duolingo, but it is not an effective teaching tool and I would never pay for the upgrade. It doesn't explain grammar rules properly. For example.

Obviously (plus Duolingo) you need to speak to native speakers to improve yourself.

Great visit to Santo Domingo! Flew in last Sunday, no delays at airport, temperature scan and I was out the door. Took UBER to hotel in Colonial District, nice room with ocean view. I video chatted with about 10 willing women from Seeking prior to my trip and made arrangement with 2 - 1 for 3 days & 1 or just one overnight. Lessons from this trip.

(1) I have to practice my Spanish and I will now that I have incentive. My first date was beautiful but her English was about as good as my Spanish. (2) I would probably only book each woman for 2 days each with a day in between to rest. Lady 2 had good English language skills & the other necessary skills as well.

I was just informed from a woman I know that the curfew has now been changed to 9:00 pm Monday. Friday, but still remains 5:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Hopefully that will give a little more time for evening hookups. I will be heading there on the 22nd of September for a couple of weeks, so I will give my report.
