Has anyone been to the Carnival in SD that happens every Feb? Good place / time to get numbers from? Is the traffic a nightmare during this time?

From what I remember Carnival is not a big thing in Santo Domingo. It was larger in Santiago and Moca the times I went there. And even in those places it did not affect traffic.

I have a driver there now. He's an Uber driver but I was so impressed I took his number and have now used him a few times. Unbelievably efficient and prompt, even by western standards, will pick you up any time day or night and has an immaculate car. If anyone wants details PM me. This guy deserves as much business as I can put his way.

Comparing the chicas attitudes and preferences between the two places is okay, but the other comparisons.

Between Puerta Plata and Santo Domingo, Santo wins hands down. You A'int seen nothing yet man.

At first years ago it didn't bother me because all I cared about was getting pussy but over the years I've learned to be more secretive and unpredictable when it comes to the locals. I used to sneak into Sosua unannounced and three hours later my phone would be blowing up after word got back to Puerto playa. Couldn't really sample the new stuff for fear of a regular popping up and starting drama. The South coast girls don't appear to have this gossip network as everyone has a big city attitude of minding their own business. Did you notice how the north coast locals mostly hangout and watch while the South coast locals had an agenda? I also switch up my money exchange places after one regular spot in Sosua gave me a tongue lashing because he felt I cheated on him when a girl told him I was exchanging my money at other spots LOL. You can probably pick any random motorchoncho guy in Sosua and ask them about an ex pat and they probably know him and some of his biz. The last straw was when my taxi driver friend in Sosua told me I'm good to the girls and told me what I was paying my two favoritas. Most don't worry about this gossip and even know it exists but with the South coast being so spread out and girls more private, it works for me.

1. I definitely liked the True hotel in SD in The Barcelo, and I have never been able to find a single True hotel in Pto Pta ever. Not in Sosua, not in Cabarete, not in San Felipe de PP (at least outside the all inclusive resort in Cofres ).

2. Also, the malls have very good leisure options such as Hard Rock Cafe in the Blue Mall. And the Italian restaurant at the entrance to Sambil mall (but the grocery store in Sambil was not even as good as Playero in Sosua).

BUT, The TRAFFIC, OMG. It's a killer.

And, attitude wise, the girls are not my type. But that's just a personal preference. I am not the Go GO type, I guess! Haha.

In the end, it's all about local or micro-culture, and a girls attitude for me. I don't care for the attitude of the girls in Sosua or Cabarete either. But, I have met very many wonderful girls in Puerto Plata, or from Montellano, Imbert and of course my favorite, the girls from Luperon. Reminds me of the song, the girl from Ipanema. (although in Brazil, the girls from Curitiba and Parana anywhere are my favorite) Tell me where else in the DR I can find girls like that? Please.

The Uber guy who drove me into Punta Cana was telling me many times how much he likes the morenas from Boca and Juan Dolio, but I never stopped there. (BTW my resort room was old, but large. Shower, bathroom etc just fine, food good, the in-house disco rocking every night from 1130-2 am and I was there nights dancing away for at least 5 nights. Pool area activities were fun and a riot at times.

However, despite all that Puerto Plata area works best for me. Because of the friendlier attitude of the girls.

If you are up to it, I would love to rent a big Casa by the beach and spend at least 10 nights in the Luperon and Imbert area...sometime.

( PS: why would you care about any gossip, particularly gringo gossip? I did not get that...coming from you of all people ).

The post below is pretty good but it also has explained that for me the south coast is better. The south coast has many more venues as he described and many more girls but they can be difficult if you are only there for P4P. There are street walkers, cupid girls, the casas, and also low budget places. If you can go Dominican style spots like GBP and assorted strip clubs do exist. I've been several times to club Ono and liked it. The restaurants, malls and subways are there with the aquarium and zoo. The malecon and movie theaters are a plus. None of this is in Puerto Plata unless you want to sit at Tam tams restaurant and shoo off crackheads on the malecon.

Hoping on a bus in Sd and going direct or paying 70 usd for a taxi to the resort town of Punta cana can't be beat for a road trip. I've been to the Playa Dorado resort and if you don't mind old rooms with cold water, bad food and watered down drinks, maybe this is your spot. The girls in POP are sweet and fuck cheaper but you also risk the gringo gossip in such a small place.

As far as the difference in airports its very simple: 600-800 usd for one flight to POP or 350-500 usd for many flights into SDQ. The north coast is great if you like things simple and easy but if you want more then SD is the ticket.

In SD:

I stayed at the Barcelo SD, and it had some minor maintenance issues but they upgraded me to the 9th floor executive room with addl benefits. The Piano Bar they have in the lobby area is quite nice.

Hit Zona Colonial a couple of nights with one of my chicas who came in Santiago for 5 nights. Not impressed with the area. Saw some streetwalker type girls hanging around. Also, older women clearly looking for a customer at ONNO's bar and restaurant, if that's your thing.

Uber works great in SD and I highly recommend. Checked out Blue Mall and Sambil Mall a few times for restaurant selections. Sambil in particular walking dsitance from Barcelo or 70 pesos with Uber.

Sambil has a number of banks and at one money exchange place. Banks were same rate for USD of 47.40 in both SD airport and Banks. Small exchange booth USD was 47.80 . Very good rates IMO given WSJ rate of 48.04. Also, many places to get a RD SIM card if you want.

Had second chica, who I also knew from before, come in from Puerto Plata for 4 days. And another I met up with in Punta Caña who was working now at a different resort. Never talked money with any of them ahead of time and paid all of them 2500 per day.

Had many contacts from Cupid I wanted to try but they were all being difficult. A couple of really good ones wanted 2000 for 1 hour and said no thanks.

My first time to both SD and Punta Caña. The Uber driver who was driving me the Bavaro Express terminal in SD for my transfer to Punta Caña upsold me and drove me to all the way to the PC resort in record time of 2 hours and in great comfort for 3300 pesos. On my return to SD I did take the Bavaro Express for 400 pesos and it was just fine and took 3 hrs and 15 minutes.

In the end I was not impressed with SD or Punta Caña (Grand Bahia all inclusive resort), and came to the realization that for me the Puerto Plata chicas in terms of attitude and cultural fit were the best. So, I don't think I will bother to ever fly into SD again but will go only into Puerto Plata in the future.

This is good information that I will look into more. In relation to hotel Jaragua where is this located? The girl I know from SD now works at jaragua so I will likely stay elsewhere but right in that vicinity.

I'm not worried about my ability to pull a chica. I just need to get into the place where there is an "opportunity". The night I get into SD is Saturday the 30th. I feel pretty good that a Saturday non holiday night is going to be a good night out in SD.

Jaragua is about a 15 min walk 5 min or less car ride to el conde. Just walk down ave independencia and it will take you right there, just go straight for 15 min LOL Saturday is the best day for sure, clubs will be packed. Sunday would be a good day to leave because sd is dead on Sundays except for ave espana and the malls. And the buses to pp are not going to be crowded at all. Hope everything works out for you.
