I have lived in DR for about 5 years now. I celebrate Christmas while I'm there, my girl and a few select others get gifts. I do not give with the expectation of receiving anything in return not an issue for me.

My girl has been with me for the last 4 years and she gets me something, she puts great thought into and usually gets me something I would not get for myself. This year a used xbox, that can play burned games. Good gift for me.

What I did find very good and I still like is Valentines Day. My fist Valentines day with my main girl was great, she got some very nice jewelry and with her hairdresser money, she bought me a coffee mug with hearts and a heart shaped picture frame with a photo of the 2 of us. I actually teared up, at the time we only had been together a few months, she did not have very much money and used what little she had to buy me a gift, I was touched.

I have already mentioned the casas before. They are the same as GBP but they don't have names. I guess you would find the addresses in the newspaper. Or just walk around Zona Colonial and when you see a place with a tinted glass door with Christmas lights around it, then you have arrived. Ring the bell and they let you in, just like GBP.

Also, I can't remember the name of the strip club / hooker spot that Gogo took me to that was near GBP, but that would be in the same category as well (or either half a notch down.) Other places close to that area that Jao took me to (and that has the best SD hookers that I have seen) are Casa Azul, Casa Teresa, and Casa Modelos. They cost more and are along the lines of the places in Gazcue like Sky House and 305 but with much better girls.
