Something else to consider is the extensions are subject to review at least once during the 25 day extension periods. As for all inclusive resorts, they would need curfew exemptions for their employees to operate at peak season capacity. I agree that Semana Santa is as or more important to Dominicans as Three Kings / Christmas / New Year but of course all inclusive resorts and international tourism have little to do with Dominicans who don't work in the industry.

I won't try to predict when the curfew ends but two things to keep in mind is that they only extend it by 25 days or thereabouts at a time so there could be and most likely be at least one more extension prior to the Christmas holiday. As far as a curfew being in place through Christmas I would NOT bet against it seeing as they had curfew through this past Semana Santa which is much more "all important" to Dominicans than Christmas. Tourism in the DR is dead as as a doornail as long as countries like Canada and others require a 14 day quarantine upon returning to their home country, the curfew does not affect tourism that much because most tourists to the DR go to all inclusive resorts and are not affected by the curfew one iota.

I enjoyed last weeks visit to Santo Domingo so much that I just arranged my next trip in October. I will book one of the ladies I spent time with last week for the first two days, then spend a day drinking beer and smoking cigars to recuperate and try out a new lady for my last two days.

Now I have to practice my Spanish.

Yes Sir, it is a done deal. I would be surprised if on the next review date (October 15 or thereabouts) the curfew is not eliminated entirely unless there is a massive uptick in virus cases. To leave any part of it in place would devastate the all important Christmas / New Year tourism season.

My unsolicited advice: Speak Spanish, pay in pesos, and if you do not manage to have a good time in the Dominican Republic it is your own damn fault. LOL! Have a great trip. I'm still here. No COVID. I was just informed from a woman I know that the curfew has now been changed to 9:00 pm Monday. Friday, but still remains 5:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Hopefully that will give a little more time for evening hookups. I will be heading there on the 22nd of September for a couple of weeks, so I will give my report.

It is now somewhat official, the curfew has been extended but the hours reduced to 9:00 pm on weekdays and 7:00 pm on weekends. The president has not signed off on it but was announced by the minister of tourism.

Sept. 27th is when the CURRENT curfew ends, it has been extended a zillion times, I expect it to continue but hopefully have the starting hours extended to a later time, fingers crossed as the President's wife has come out in support of a later start time and so hasn't Frank Raineiri the father of the AI resort in the DR, both having a lot of pull with El Presidente.

Usually in order to extend the Prez would make an order and send it to other officials for vote and approvals, and has to be done like a week or more ahead of time before current one expires. So far according to Dominican Today that hasn't been done, meaning this time they prob will end it for sure. Also people are beginning to protest, especially club / bar owners and employees. They want to be open just like hotels are. I'm heading there for two weeks in OCT hopefully I land in some good party vibes.

All true, but also true is the volume of deaths, hospitalizations, and confirmed infections are all significantly down in recent weeks. With the annual make or break tourism peak season coming up there is little justification for extending the curfew. On a practical level the curfew has been unenforceable in marginal barrios, large segments of the population are crammed into the metro, the cable cars, and carros publicos during daytime hours, and home delivery drivers are flying around the cities at night.

I've been using Duolingo for a couple of years. I do around 20 minutes a day. I also have done 25 weeks of intensive immersion Spanish schooling. And I'm not fluent yet. But I can certainly get around and do all the things I need to do, and understand most of what I hear. Not to discourage anyone, but fluency is a long road for most of us. I still want to get there, but I'm not getting any younger and the only thing that would help now would be to live in a Spanish speaking location / situation, as in all Spanish, no English.

I like to use Duolingo, but it is not an effective teaching tool and I would never pay for the upgrade. It doesn't explain grammar rules properly. For example.

Obviously (plus Duolingo) you need to speak to native speakers to improve yourself.
