Why would anyone ask about the fare (la tarifa) up front if they already know what it is?

Furthermore asking about the fair up front doesn't help you one bit if they quote you 300 DOP and it should only be 200 DOP if you don't know what it should be.

Even if I was using Uber (and I do) how would I know to challenge a inefficient route if I didn't the route? Alas, I do or at least the general direction because I live here.

But let me share a story about Uber (since it seems you are determined to continue your game of one upmanship). I was leaving from Mega Centro one time during rush hour. I figured I'd wind up with a surge charge because traffic was heavy. But my man took me on a route around the traffic that I had never seen before. It was longer without a doubt. But saved me (and him) a huge amount of time. The fare (la tarifa) was only about 20 DOP or so more than the usual. I didn't figure it was that important to use Uber's superior customer service (something that I found not to be true in the US that's why I use Lyft) to complain about it.

These are the things you learn when you live here. So if you didn't know, now you know.

If not they simply tell you the color of the taxi and the response time. Now during the seven months I lived in Santo Domingo Este I used Oper almost exclusively as they had a staging area 5 minutes from my building. During those seven months I never (and I mean never) experienced a situation where a driver tried to charge me a cost higher than the standard fare. I never received poor service or general nonsense. I never got into a Oper taxi that where the vehicle was unsafe or filthy; nor did any of the drivers operate in a reckless manner. Those were my experiences. If the occasion dictated it Oper Taxi is my goto choice.

The advantage of living here is developing a knowledge experience base that is deeper and more extensive than anyone who is only visiting on a part time basis. Even my fellow expats share information with me I didn't know. It is the rare visitor that can arrive and show me something I didn't know about Santo Domingo / Santo Domingo Este. And when they do it's a most pleasant surprise. What I enjoy most about meeting with those that don't live here is the unique perspective they bring and different way they see things (Thanks Mr. GoGo). Of course that has a lot to do with the fact we are all different people with different needs and desires. It's a good thing we all have different tastes. Women who you don't think are hot need to get paid too.

Listen to the the man. Because I second that motion. They are out there to be found. If you are looking for a prostitute, then you are going to have to get into a tourist area where you can screen the look you want by preferences. But be prepared to pay 5000 - 7000 K in pesos. Because they are in high demand from the white boys that like that type of body.

Now don't get me wrong. I'm so barrio. But I happen to prefer that body type also. Over three years of living in Santo Domingo Este. So, I might know of what I speak. But you decide for yourself.

I thought I mentioned that uber is not always ideal. I have no problem with anyone using taxis, it doesn't matter to me. I choose to avoid them because, among other reasons, uber's customer service includes lost and found, fare review (they issue refunds when drivers don't follow efficient routes or otherwise exceed normal fare ranges for given trips), driver background checks, vehicle safety features, GPS tracking for security and arrival time estimates, and so on. As I said, there are situations when taxis are more convenient. I will stay home or walk before I get in a carro publico. I'm not even going to discuss them but go ahead and try to convince us if you have time to kill.

Smart phone usage in the entire Dominican Republic is 48%. That leaves over half the population not being able to hail a Uber. I know Dominicans that use both. I've been with them when we have decided to that it would be more advantageous to use "transporte publico" (public transportation) from both a time and cost basis. And other times when use of a regular taxi is of greater advantage that using Uber.

If you don't know; now you know!

It will take place in 2018 on March 4th. Of course that'll only be days after the Independence Day parade. I've never been to the Carnival in La Vega or Santiago, but the SD one is good fun. The backdrop of the Carribbean Sea adds charm.
My first time on overnight stay in the DR with first time on overnight stay in the DR was during Carnival. We just happen to be in Santo Domingo during that time. It was very big and concentrated in the colonial zone.

I also went to the Carnival in Las Vega. It was very nice however getting a hotel was useless unless you had reserved in advance. My crew actually had to settle in a hotel in Santiago. It was a challenge mongering because our rooms were so far away from the action. There were very beautiful chicas in both areas. If I had to choose one it would be SD for the convenience.
