All the average apartment price is either equal or more than decent hotel / hostal. What's up with all these cleaning, service and property fees with Airbnb. It is not worth it based on what they are charging now.

Exactly why I have only done AirBNB twice: once in Aruba and once in Manila. In a hotel you have someone changing your sheets and towels everyday. To me, Airbnb works more if you are with a steady partner, and not for mongering (unless you are planing to party at like a villa in Sosua.).

Everything in Santo Domingo is for locals. There are not many visitors that go outside of Zona Colonial. If you see a place geared towards foreigners then prepare to get ripped off. i. e. Foxy's and the places that were on Pasteur.

Service Fee is automatic with Airbnb. And though I can understand anyone asking a deposit to protect their investment; however Service and Property fees are bullshit! If an extra hustle. Sometimes its The deciding factor on whether I rent the room or not. One time I was going to rent a apartment for two days. The fee call for $100 cleaning fee. I didn't pay it but my friend did because he didn't see it the extra charge.

When he was leaving a middle age Dominican came to clean the room. She said she gets 1000 pesos extra a week for doing three rooms when they are rented.

Tau from inside is like a prison. The whole zona to me seems depressing and dark. I know it has deep history and people love it, do not beat me down bros. I visited Santo Domingo once from December 25 to 31. My only regret was not staying longer. There were parties everywhere, Santo Domingo is very festive during Christmas. There were no lack of girls but hey, I speak Spanish and know the city. I am not into Airbnb or into any place that can't guarantee me 24 hours electric power so I can't give advise about apartment rentals.

Pyramid plaza should meet your needs. It's Airbnb in a good location and the rooms run between 40 and 80 depending on your taste.

Santiago does not have a beach. It's not position on the coast with water excess.
