You can get great accomodations at really good prices. I usually go for places with pools and gyms. Having Uber services make the whole city good options. Like Mr E said you will almost never see the owners. The Santiago airbnbs are even better with great features and lower pricing. The only caution with airbnbs is making sure you know the girls you bring into the place. You are your own security. If the girl give you a problem it can get ugly. Most places are so nice that girls are on their best behavior wanting to enjoy the luxury.
