Uber is not going to make it in the DR without a redo. I will be in SD this week and could use a good driver. PM that number. What would a ride to SD from the airport cost.

I almost forgot. One time while I was in Santo Domingo, I had a problem with my Uber connection. It kept spinning, like it was trying to connect. I turned off / restarted my mobile WiFi to reboot and problem was solved!

I was in Santo Domingo for a month in Dec- Jan. I had no problem with a connection to the airport's WiFi to connect with Uber. If you leave out the airport, the WiFi isn't strong enough to hold. I had to communicate this with my driver as he drove by when he saw no one at the curb. No big deal. I even took it to and from when I came back the next week to rent a car for a few days from Nelly rent a car, which is located on the other side of the parking lot. I had a mobile WiFi unit by this time. My buddy came weeks later and had a problem connecting to the airport's WiFi but not with Uber. I still had no problem on that date with the WiFi connection. I'm not sure what service or kind of cellular he has. The five days he was there, we used Uber to get around centro Santo Domingo and Avenida Venezuela. My charges were $25-30 total for those day.

Posts: 4026I agree with you, $30 to $40 is just abusive. There is a happy medium between the publico & that crazy high price. The guy who runs the transport unions by the way (Juan Hubieres) is lobbying hard against the proposed extension of the metro to the airport and through to Boca Chica. I think it just a matter of time before it happens. It might be a while but it's coming.

Posts: 30Santo Domingo casas de citas.
I'm in Santo Domingo for the first time and have read roughly 20 pages of the Forum on DR, but cannot find hardly any addresses and facts on casas in SD. I only see Casa Teresa and a nameless other casa. No addresses. The Monger Map is old and only lists clubs, not casas. Can anyone help with a few basics. Am in Zona Colonial but could go wherever there are casas.
Thanks!

I was not comparing anything with the publico. 30 to 40 bucks is a rip off to me. For 20 or 25 I would have booked him but since I know how to catch the publico for a 100 pesos that will be my 1st choice. The publico are toyota vans and decent. I do not mine drivers making a living but I hate being abused.

Posts: 4026How do you comnpare a car with a private driver (taxi or uber) to a publico? It makes little sense. You can get a motoconcho to take you for even less, but why would you? I respect the choice but it is not one I would make. I drive myself but that is not for everybody either. There is no wrong or right answer, it's all about what works best for the individual. So the choice is not bad, the comparison is bad.

Posts: 4026Yes you can use uber from the airport and to the airport. The taxistas pester and try to interfere with uber drivers but you can use them. To be picked up at the airport by an uber driver, on the lower level go to the end of the arrivals sidewalk farthest from taxi stand. You can also be picked up anywhere on the sidewalk in front of the departure level (upper level). $20 to Boca Chica, LOL!

Posts: 3103Taxi and Uber in SD
Some one was kind enough to give me the name of an Uber driver who was very reasonable. So I contact him and guess what. He no longer does Uber. He still drives but his rates are not eye popping. 30 bucks from the airport to SD. This is not a bad rate but it is not special. It was a bad test because I pay a 100 pesos for the publico at the airport.

It's an excellent place to get a sandwich. With several locations throughout Santo Domingo and Santo Domingo este you can use your smart phone with internet access in order to find the location nearest you. They are in google maps.
I have eaten in three different locations throughout both cities and have received consistently high quality food and drink. The service can be a bit slow. But I think the wait is worth it. And so have all my dates when we are out for a casual evening, take out or that post coital snack you sometimes need in order to recharge for that 3rd or 4th round (if you got it in ya).
Now, I'm not a professional restaurant critic. But for the misinformed a restaurant review is by it's very definition a opinion piece. Most restaurants are not casas, so most can be easily found on google maps if you have the correct name.
As far as prices how about this: $ = 500 DOP $$ = 501 - 1000 DOP $$$ = 1001 - 2000 DOP $$ = 2001 - 3000 DOP $$ 3001+ DOP.
Average prices for this restaurant: $.
Are restaurant reviews useful information? I don't know. I'm not in your head. I don't know what you know. Mr. E said someone mentioned a restaurant in a post that he checked out and liked. And Mr. E is a DR vet!
I know everyone needs to eat. I know a few of you don't live here like do. So they don't have a bevy of lovely chicas parading through their apartment preparing home cooked meals in their underwear or less.
I hope this clears the air and helps a few of you get your panties out of a knot. Some of yall need to seriously put your big boy pants on. Because you be on some of that girly man shit! Girls air their grievances through social media. Men talk things out privately.
I am a man in the arena. I know the critics don't count.
So if you are feeling a little tense and up tight. Plan a trip to get down here. Grab some sun, rum and a chica. Get you nut. And take it easy.
Meanwhile back to my regularly scheduled enjoyment of life. Just pass me the hooka!
