Now you have me thinking, G, because I have seen this, too. It seems they contracted an internet virus shortly after our conversation and it magically manifested in reality. It happens in the Philippines too. I have been to the doctor but he, too, is puzzled. Internet hospital virus. Be careful mates.

Although I have two regulars in SD and one in Santiago that I met via Dominican Cupid and these are all fine ladies not scammers I always try to add to the roster for my upcoming trips. Lately I've noticed the new cupid chicas I've contacted are all asking for $100 or peso equivalent before I even meet them (enticing me with sexy naked photos). Has this happened to you? How do you handle it? I normally say no I will pay you generously when I meet you x time / day at my hotel but not before and some agree to that and some don't proving their scam. I am just wondering how some of you guys handle this. The Filipino chicks on Filipino Cupid do this, too. Cheers.

I receive the same photo of a kid in the hospital bed from 6 different Facebook chicas. Many work full time on Facebook. This sick kid must have had 6 different mothers, LOL LOL LOL LOL. 99% of the woman are married and Facebook chatting is easy work, better than manual labor in the resort hotels. I actually had 1 resort hotel aminga who answered her cell phone to the Canada novio and quickly put in eye drops to make it look like she had been crying. Of course he send $100 dollars the next day and she bought me pizza & paid for the taxi. WOW!

    Getting bus to Sosua

A few posts back, someone was being advised to move from SD to Sosua. To get the bus take an Uber to the Caribe Tours Bus Station. Roughly once per hour there is a bus leaving for Sosua and the journey takes 5 hours. Buy a ticket at the counter (350-400 peso) & then cruise the line of bus stops in advance of the scheduled dept. Time. There may be an announcement but if you just have pidgeon Spanish like me, you may miss it. You need to get into that queue to secure your place on the bus.

On the other end, I ignored the guy with the Taxi sign and just used a moto. They were offering transfer to downtown Sosua for 500 - I gave him 200.

It's a 5 hour journey but it didn't seem so painful.

I agree, and to keep it simple and stress free I adhere very strictly to a long standing rule: Never send money to anyone for any reason. With this unbreakable rule in place, the many relentless ploys to get me to break it is free entertainment. It is high comedy.

Dominican Cupid Scammer chicks not technically scammers

I have had this happen when exchanging WhatsApp information and I always decline, stating I prefer the meet in person type of interaction. If they insist, I delete them and move on. While 1 in 10 may be legitimate, there are more than enough women out there that do not try to get Western Union money. I treat anyone looking for money before meeting as a scammer and I move on.

Once we meet in person, I have no problem being generous within reason, but until then, no money. I've heard every sob story in existence. I'm sure there are many women that scam themselves some nice regular spending money with these tactics. I find Dominicans and Jamaicans very consistent with this method of operation. I pretty much doubt I will ever go back to the DR because I have so much more fun in Colombia and Peru.

No harm, no foul, the place is a clip joint from day one. You had no way of knowing that. Except researching it here or asking questions. $100 is a crazy high price to pay anywhere in the country unless you are getting something much more special than what's offered at Oasis. Don't get me wrong, there are many places that will give you false reasons to pay that much but it's not necessary. Now you are a veteran, share your experience and help others.

I don't normally spend $100 but one of the girls kept working my dk long enough that I started thinking with it.

Got to the room and dropped my guard. Let jeans and wallet out of my sight for a short while. 6th sense kicked in and I checked the wallet - 100 euro missing. She magically 'found' it when challenged but no joy on the missing 5000 peso. They heard me out but wouldn't return the 5000.

Lesson learned. I dropped my guard. However, be aware of that place. I'd steer well clear.

At Mr. E. you're quite right on all counts. Although hindsight is 20/20, I was off my game. The involuntary 'tip' I see as a stupidity tax.

I'm usually the last to pay over the going rate but blood was flowing away from my brain to other parts!

I guess if there is a silver lining, I can thank her / them for me now upping my game. Decided to take the bus to Sosua today. Will still be going to other places over the next couple of weeks but need to get something out of my system.
