Thanks, I'll do it before my next trip. Seems duty free is open at Santiago Airport at 4am for arriving passengers. Many years ago, the last time I used STI, there was a tiny shop inside the departure area, no big selection of duty free items then.

The policy is changed and the duty free at STI is now open (and has been for awhile) for late night early morning passengers and the selection is very good for a not very discriminating consumer like me. Having said that, I think my last trip via delta where I had a stopover at NYC, one baileys cost $18 (compared to 3 for $62 this trip but I cannot swear that at NYC, it was a one liter bottle, which it is this time).

Yes the time I stayed there in September I took the club premium rate and it is well worth the price.

Superior room with club premium access is about $103 at barcelo's website for members (free to join). Last time I stayed there, I checked in at 10am and was given a room and checked out at around 5pm, no extra charge. Free wifi, free parking, free drinks and snacks (red and white wine from Chile or Spain). Cigar store and cigar lounge in the lobby. Live entertainment some nights in the lobby bar, some nights karaoke. I stayed there for a week one time, package deal with orbitz (air and hotel), the club premium room with the package deal cost me about $77 (orbitz promo code TRAVEL100 takes $100US off a a 7 night air and hotel package in Mexico, Caribbean and Hawaii, http://www.orbitz.com/travel-deals/o...on-promo-code/).

Anyone who has done any shopping on line should find this a normal thing. In a way, it is like your online check in which I believe most of us do by now. You fill in your details, credit card details and you get a two page document to be printed out. A receipt for your payment and the card (no longer a card) with the bar code. This trip when I landed at Santiago at 4am, I did not have to make a detour to buy it. Handed it over to the guy prior to immigration kiosk who had a pc and scanner set up. Asked me to wait while he scanned and then waved me in. I had a carry on only and so with a stop over at the duty free to buy 3.1 liter baileys ($62.50), it took about 15 minutes to get out of the airport from starting out at immigration queue.

Anyone have any experience staying at a hotel at Juan Dolio Beach? I am thinking about staying there with a chica but I cannot find any information about a nice hotel and how nice the beach is. Any recommendations for accommodations etc is appreciated.

I stayed in Juan Dolio years ago for 10 days. I was bored out of my mind. I stayed at the hilton, it was ok, the pool was cool, and golf was cool. In hindsight I would have stayed at a AI resort. I would have spent less, more options to eat, drink, and no need to rent a car.

I'm sure JD have changed in the last year but doubt it would be dramatic change.

What do you want to do? And how long is your stay? If you just want a quick weekend get a way I recommend a resort.

Section of the DR forum "Other Areas" reports 39, 40, 41, 42 (about three pages back, in that section) photos and links for various places in Juan Dolio. Hilton seems to no longer own the hotel in Metro Country Club, Juan Dolio (it is now simply Los Marlins Hotel).

Also various other apartment and villa rentals available in Juan Dolio.

I wrote about my stay at the Barcelo Capella resort in Juan Dolio 2 years ago. The hotel is very nice, as is the beach. It'll cost you extra, however, to bring chicas in.

Jao gave me a lot of good advice then, so like he said, just ask!

On that note, I'm going to tag on my question: after sitting out 2012, I'm planning a trip there in the next 2 months.

I want to try the cupid route this time. So should I stay in a hotel in the city SD, or in an outlying beach resort?

What's a better move, ask a chica to spend time with me on the beach to guarantee some overnight action? Or stay close to where they live thus removing their travel (potential obstacle to hooking up)?

Yes the time I stayed there in September I took the club premium rate and it is well worth the price. Yes that 9 floor lounge was well worth it because the chica I was with loves her presidente light and just that alone was worth the upgrade. It really is worth the upgrade because the 9th floor was enough with breakfast and the lunch for me and chica and when I was there I only bought dinner at some decent but not expensive places across the raised walk way. When I did the math I seen I did not buy breakfast, lunch, water, alcohol or some other things and the chica really enjoyed room, jacuzi and did not really want to leave the room that much another cost reduction.

I usually do an apartment with one chica and any others I see on a trip will be at hotels and that is what I tried with the Barcelo in September and will be using them again.

Can be useful to travel with a few bikinis to lend to amigas.
