You can meet non-pros in the markets, museums, malls, and anywhere you would meet them in the US. Spanish is a must. Unless you are investing in the long-term, they may not be worth it. Do not expect to get some on the first date. I met my first non-pro, which meant non-English speaking, on a Tuesday a few years ago. I would say that is the most important part. You need to take the time to establish a connection ahead of time so that you stand out. These chicks probably have no less than 100 dudes hitting them up everyday online and there's no telling how many they've (the chicas) given their numbers out to.

I hesitate to call this a report since it's not exactly the kind of fare that's posted here and my experiences seem to differ at times from others.

I've been to the DR several times – santo domingo, puerto plata, sosoua and boca chica. However, I haven't been there for about 15 years and I remember very little. If you're looking for sexcapades or, for that matter, useful info that hasn't been covered, you will be disappointed. I simply want to relate my experiences. The primary reason for my visit was to have a relaxing vacation. I include meeting women for a good time in my definition of relaxing vacation, hence the relevancy to this board.

Before going further, I would like to thank past and present members of this board. Much of the info posted on the board proved to be invaluable and I pored over it prior to my trip. And I can't say thanks enough to Jao, whose posts not only on ISG were immensely helpful, but also his countless emails chocked full of incredibly useful info and photos went way beyond the call of duty. Without all this, my trip would not have been nearly as fun as it was, and it was fun.

I should also add a guide book was of some use, though not nearly as useful as the info mentioned above. If you want to know about all the 'normal' sites and that sort of thing, then you need a guide book. I only mention this because several members said a guidebook was unnecessary given all the info on ISG. Hey, it's not the be all and end all and not all encompassing, as great as it is.

It was a short trip. I traveled from NY to Florida for one day to visit family (hey, I have a small family!) , and then off to Santo Domingo for 4 nights. I chose the DR mostly because it's relatively close to NY and my time was limited. It's also inexpensive comparatively.

I stayed at Hotel Palacio in zona colonial. I couldn't have been happier there. I got the best room because I'm spoiled like that, not rich. I like nice hotels and nice hotel rooms. The private balcony was bigger than most rooms. The hotel had some minor issues, but it was a total trip and I wouldn't hesitate to stay again. As stated elsewhere, it was girl friendly. I made sure to register for 2 so as not to incur additional fees.

I tried to set up a GFE before traveling. No luck. No luck in doing so when I was there either, but I made some invaluable contacts for the next time, assuming there is a next time. I'm not into getting laid as often as I can, at least not any more, haha. I'm 60 and the libido and traveling goals are not the same as they once were. All I really wanted was one woman who could be more or less everything to me. A friend, a guide, a lover. A temporary wife, hahaha. I'm not making any judgments here; to each his own. I did set up some meets beforehand using badoo and cupid. While many women professed interest and gave me numbers, I only met 4 despite my efforts. There was little chemistry or attraction with the ones I met except as follows.

I actually became enamored with one girl online (cupid) from San Pedro even though such a relationship went against all my rules. And that is, she has 2 kids and spoke no English. I didn't mention that my Spanish is not very good but good enough to have basic communication. Meeting her was another story and is kind of funny. She's very sweet and innocent and works like a dog as a secretary. 60 hours. 6 days a week and for peanuts. Her boss gave her a very hard time about taking a day off to meet me. Plans kept changing and I gave up at one point. But she was persistent about meeting. She took a few hours off from work and took a one hour bus ride to meet in a park in zona colonial. The kicker is she came with her mother! It turned out she was afraid to travel to the big city alone. How weird! She had such little time though – she spent 90 minutes with me, that she didn't have time to wait for our lunch order. The double kicker is that I'm still enamored with her. Perhaps there's something to be said for plain old mongering, haha.

I was striking out with women. I tried finding a few chica friendly bars in the area but I'm hopeless without a GPS or a guide. The nonsensical street numbers and lack of street names were of no help either. As a last resort, I took a taxi to Satin Dolls. As you probably know, there are several other similar places next to Satin Dolls. I say 'last resort' because this is simply not my thing. It's not so much the money. Actually, it's not the money. I'm very uncomfortable being surrounded by women and having to make a choice. I was outside my comfort zone. I know, many guys think this is heaven. The first place I went to, not Satin Dolls, was filled with a dozen or so beauties, all 7 to 9's and probably a 10 or two. I picked one and was given a price of $4500RD. I got up to leave without saying a word thinking this was ridiculous. As soon as I started walking, the price was lowered to $3500. I kept walking. When I got outside, the guy following me all along, lowered it to $2500. I would have paid that but the whole thing totally turned me off and told him to take a hike. I guess I'm not the bargaining type. And there was something about screwing a hardened pro that turned me off. I should also add that $4500RD is still a bargain compared to the US. I just didn't like getting taken advantage of.

I got back in the cab and the driver said he would find someone to my liking. I lost my desire to go to Satin Dolls or any of the other nearby houses. Amazingly, thirty seconds after we started driving, we saw an amazing chica walking, a 10 in my book. She wanted 2000RD and I agreed, no bargaining. It turned out she was on her way to one of the houses, or something like that. I suppose 2000 was more than what she would have gotten anyway if she had to pay the house. We went back to the Palacio and I tell you, it ranked among the worst sex ever, and I can tell you stories of some bad sex. Although I was promised 2 hours, it seemed she was in a race to take my milk in 2 seconds. A total turn off. I told her to leave and chalked it up to being a stupid gringo.

I had exchanged numbers with the driver. He called to see how things went and seemed sympathetic. He said he'the find someone else for me. An hour later, he called and said he had a woman downstairs for me. Same price but he said it would be more of a GFE. She was also a looker, probably a 7 or 8, and I readily agreed. Same fucking scenario! A total turn off and after 10 minutes of racing to milk me, she gave up, got dressed and walked. I was embarrassed that I couldn't get it up, but the whole scenario turned me off. I didn't protest and was actually glad to see her go. But I yelled at the driver and refused to give him a tip, which turned into a mini argument.

Perhaps I should be banned from ISG for not being manly enough, haha. The day before, I went to Boca Chica. It's been a long time since I was there. 15 years probably. Things didn't seem to change much though, except there was no place to relax and stay by the ocean without being hassled to rent a chair and a million other things. I tell ya, I don't mind the touts so much and expected it. I know how to handle them. But all the women seem to work for pimps and there didn't seem to be any freelancers. Not that there were many women there when I was there, a rainy Wednesday.

I ended up talking to several of the pimps or touts or whatever you want to call them and we had interesting conversations. I kept saying I didn't want a chica mainly because I didn't see any women I was remotely interested in. But I took the bait when a tout told me he had exactly what I was looking for, young, blanco and pretty. However, I almost vomited when he introduced me. He said she was 16 but she didn't even look that old. While I admit to being attracted, this is something I draw the line at. I honestly felt sorry for her. I immediately headed back to Santo Domingo.

Don't fret, I ended up getting my rocks off several times and happily so. I innocently went to a salon on El Conde to get a manicure and pedicure. I didn't realize they offered everything! All the salons seem to operate similarly and this was where I found relief. It was similar to a massage with happy ending in the US, and I enjoy this sort of thing.

Contrary to what I read, I saw virtually no SW's on El Conde, including outside Paco's. I walked the strip a bunch of times at different times of the day and night. El Conde was a trip, but 4 days of it was more than enough. I used this area as my home base for taking off to other parts of the city to see and do things. It really is an interesting area, culturally that is.

My next to last day, I ended up meeting a tour guide by the outdoor restaurant at the other end of El Conde from Paco's. We talked for several hours on a few occasions. Not necessarily about women, but about life in general in SD. He spoke some English and with my limited Spanish, we had no problem understanding each other. We became friends and mentioned the next time I came to SD, he would find exactly what I was looking for.

I ended up buying Sildenafil (Viagra) from 2 places on El Conde. The first place was a large drug store and I forget exactly what I paid, but somewhere around $2 / each. I later decided that at that price, I wanted more, and came across a tiny farmacia. I think I got a pretty darn good price at $1. 29 / each.

I won't go into much else outside my sexual misadventures, but suffice to say, I had a wonderful time. I enjoy traveling alone and going to places outside the usual touristy things and simply talking to people to understand the culture.

Just a few words on the food and restaurants. I'm very judgmental about restaurants since I've worked in the business for 20 years. I'm a big believer in service. This is something that seems to be lacking not only in RP but every Latin American country I went to. Of course there are exceptions, but I found this to be the rule of thumb.

I went out to eat with a chica at an extremely overpriced place outside zona colonial, Sophia's Bar & Grill. I asked about the wine and was told they had red or white. Give me a break! The kicker was that no one came to us during or after the meal to see how we were doing. The waiter was simply an order taker. I should add that the bill was about $85 for 2. All we had was one of the most inexpensive entrees (risotto) and a glass of wine each.

However a real jewel, recommended by Jao, was a Dominicana restaurant 2 blocks from the hotel, Mesóand the'Bari Restaurant. I went solo and had the entire upstairs dining room to myself. Downstairs was a bar with food and was filled with Dominicans. I think I was the only gringo there. The food was wonderful, but again, not cheap all things considered. About $25 for an entrée and beer. The kicker to me was the waiter and I were alone. Not once did he come to me for anything. For the most part, he was staring out the window.

For the most part, El Conde is overpriced. There's a somewhat typical outdoor Dominican place on the corner of Duarte where the Palacio is. The food was okay but it seems you can't get away with spending under $10 for a typical dish. I went there with the girl and mother from San Pedro and it cost about $50. And again, no real service.

I think the Dominicans invented the saying that nothing in life is free. Ask a question, and it'll cost you. I understand the poverty and am as sympathetic as anyone, but it really hardens people.

But I'll stop here before I digress too much. All in all, I had a wonderful time. But the next time, and I believe there will be a next time soon, I will be more savvy and have an even better time.

Thats exactly what I thought when I read the post. If I get a girl's number in a casa, I will tell her I am not paying the stupid gringo price of 3500 for two hours but I will give her 1500 to come thru the next day before her shift begins. It works about 75% of the time, some will ask for 2K.
