The police in Santo Domingo are crooks, thieves and continue to prey on foreigners in rental cars; In fact to the point where almost without question you will be stopped on the Malecon after dark any night for no good reason. They are not there for anybodies protection other than to fatten their own wallets, please don't think otherwise.

I have been to SD about 8 times now and never have had an issue with a policemen. Actually, they have cut many hustler and chicas (as if there is a difference) short and gotten me out of 1or 2 situations. I have paid a propina or two too set the stage for a pleasant surrounding. However, NEVER been hustled like some of you are stating. Once again, EVERY incident I have seen has been a monger showing his ass from Sosua, POP to Sdq. I'm sorry if you guys have had issue and don't doubt it but after renting cars et all never had any issues of strong arming.

GBP is the most outstanding for the dollar. It's the Target of cases. First stop of every trip from now on.. As well as a few holes in the wall on pasture. A couple don't have signs but WOW!

The main room couldn't be no bigger than 10 by10. One big bar and two high bar tables, also has a couch. The chics were beautiful with some kind of Hawaiian/Indian theme uniform.

Jaosousa was relaxing, as I was over whelmed. But I was quickly bought back to reality when they said 5mil tln.

I would love to be able to legally and easily travel to Cuba. From reading the tea leaves, appears the political winds are shifting back to the Republicans regaining power. No Republican will open Cuba for travel and business.

I'm not up to date about what's happening in Santo Domingo now.

Jaososua i agree with you 99% of the time but not on this one about Cuba.Your right the South Florida Cubans are an powerful ally for the Republicans.But those are hardliners,there is a new cuban voting block emerging.The Cubans who were born in America and dont really share the hatred for Castro that their parents have.If Obama opens Cuba the South Floida hardliners(who didnt vote for him) will have major decisions to make.

Will the hardliners accept pennies on the dollar to give up future land claims.

Is there a reason you want to stay en SD este?

I have stayed at Aurora del Sol which was a really nice hotel. Unless you have a car and really know your way around there isn't much you can do on the other side of the river.

If you are bringing a chica with you it can be nice but don't go solo expecting to find chicas galore within walking distance.

I've stayed at the Aurora a number of times but was looking for something different (and cheaper).

I've got a car and know the city pretty well. I'm arriving early evening and picking up an amiga who lives in SDQ Este. Want to do Isabelita and Avenida Venezuela and don't want to waste time going to Gazcue. (Also, if the novia comes looking for me, it'd be in Gazcue.)

Anyone have any hidden gems.

I have stayed at Aurora del Sol which was a really nice hotel. Unless you have a car and really know your way around there isn't much you can do on the other side of the river.
