Has anyone stayed at hotel Penalba,looks like a decent place. I went there for lunch last week and the food was outstanding,pricey though.

Day 1 – landed at SDQ, got rental car at Avis, no problem. $130 for a week, and to get to Puerto Plata/Costambar/Sosua and back, not to mention taxi to/fr airport, seems like a deal. Driving is no worse than other places I've been, Italy, Mexico, Peru, etc! Got $90 rate for Melia hotel at priceline.comincluding fees, knew it was not chica-friendly but enjoyed the top-notch accommodations and wasn't planning to bring chicas to my room on first day first visit. Had booked one night only, thinking I would check out the Riazor and other places recommended by board members. The Santo Domingo monger's map was indispensible, thanks!

Went out for a walk around 7pm, went into Girls House first. Interesting set-up, bar and couches and at least 20 chicas in there, 2 or 3 guys at most. Chicas congregate in a circle around any guy who walks in, and stand there until you pick one, or at least ignore them long enough for them to lose interest. I would rate most of them as 6s, a few 7s, doable but not breathtaking. The rate is 2500 for 2 hours, and 500 for the room at Mystik hotel next door. High by Sosua standards, I guess, and compared to cheaper casas, but still not bad. Took a cute little spinner going by Crystal, who told me they advertise for chicas 18-25, and she had been there only a couple of months. Buy the girl a drink and they will cuddle on the couch and rub your crotch, apparently for as long as it takes until you make up your mind to take them out. The strip club is upstairs, rooms are on the ground floor, the boite is much more brightly lit, and there seemed to be more chicas and more of them up and dancing than at Foxy's. Quality was perhaps a notch below Foxy's, but still plenty of cute ones to choose from. They will also sit in your lap, grind, massage your crotch and generally do whatever to convince you to get a room. Seemed friendlier than Foxy's, but on the other hand, I saw a few guys at Foxy's chilling with chicas on their laps. At Baby Doll's the rate quoted was 3500 including the room, or $100 US. I passed, and watched the strip show for a while, seemed to have more continuous performances than Foxy's, I. E. Fewer empty-stage songs. Looked to be about 15 chicas there, and 5 or 6 guys. Cab back to hotel was 200, checked out the Coppa but doesn't seem to get going until well after 1 am, or maybe just slow on Sundays. Overall, plenty of chicas and casas to choose from and easy to find, but didn't exactly find the one on day one. Looking to get a phone on day two, meet up with other mongers, and check out some smaller cheaper casas.

First timer. Arrived at SDQ and got quoted $40 at the airport by taxi guys. I was expecting $30 to $45 according to reports I've read here. Should've done my homework and called Apollo Taxi, but how am I supposed to do that with no cell phone in the airport at 11pm?

Stayed at Zona Colonial near Independence park. Cheap apartment hotel with weak ac, shitty wifi signal, noisy bed, a safe not secured to anything, a small empty fridge, and small electric stove for $40 a day. Walked down El Conde, was dead as hell, no people or putas around. Took a cab to Jaragua, DP 200. Met a non pro I lined up from the internet, we drank some beers and ate, and then took her to my hotel. On the drive back descretelly checked street action behind Jaragua, indeed quality was good, will have to give this place a try. Had good sex at night and following morning after waking up. Visited a place called showgirls last night in Juan Dolio. I also visited caprichios which used to be ilusiones. Behind the bar in Caprichios was an old white guy. 4 chicas, two were cute. In many casas the chicas are lazy. In Klimax in La Romana the chicas had energy and tried to get you to go with them, feeling your body, showing their tits and other stuff. Airport taxi drivers, pimps, and hookers are the biggest hustlers in the developing world. Whether I am in DR, Cuba, Peru, Argentina, Colombia, Paraguay, Brazil, or New York. I do my best to plan out my ground transportation arrivals and departures. I do this not just because of cost, but because of safety. I have read enough Brazil/Colombia taxi cab secuestro stories to know better.

Yes, the taxi stand set-up at the international airport in Bogota is 100x better than the set-up at SDQ. Nevertheless, when I am in the DR, I never feel the need to phone a friend with the cabbie's particulars (registration#, name, destination, license#) before taking a ride.

3, 500 pesos? Wow! They are like the India guys that owns the tax free duty free electronic stores in St. Marteen: they have different price for the same product depending from where you come. Never pay more than 1, 000 pesos from airport to the city, which by the way I believe is an inflated rate and never pay more than 200 pesos for an intracity transfer, 150 is acceptable for most places.

I had no problems on my recent travel with a small exception that I solved later. I always give the taxi guys specif directions: "take me to Plaza Fernandez II which is a minute north of Acropolis mall on X Ave. " take me to Villas Agricolas which is north of the National Cemetery going by Maximo Gomez Ave. " To study the city map is an exercise everyone should do before traveling. It is less probable to get ripped-off if yo show you are not a rookie.

I was watching the Urban Sex program on Cinemax that was filmed in Santo Domingo a few minutes ago, I want to be in the city right now.

Yeah, like I said I called the guy every spanish swear word in the book and then gave him $30. That as**ole had NO chance of getting $3500 pesos out of me. For another 1000 pesos I could get a taxi all the way to Bavaro where I am now, we took the Bavaro Express bus as recommended and it took about 4 hours due to traffic but the bus was comfortable except for the preacher they let on board who stood and gave a solid 45 minute serman and then collected a few pesos, overall a decent bus ride, bus fare was 600 pesos for two people, dirt cheap. We head back to SDQ tomorrow.
