Posts: 8Is Rennaisance Jaragua chica friendly
Staying at Ren Cen in early November. I've read there are plenty of chicas in and around the hotel. Any tips?

Want to me nearer the action? Try Hotel Mercure in Colonial Zone. Has all requirements you mentioned plus in heart of action.

Akatakyie,
The weather will soon become very pleasant as the hurricane season blows away. It's still on though so you need to check the weather reports before travelling to the Caribbean at this time of year. It has been such a crazy year for hurricanes. Nothing significant in DR though. Let us know how things go.

I'm heading back down to SD in november and am looking for some girl-friendly hotel options.
I stayed before at the Hotel Naco - no complaints, girl-friendly and the price was good at about $65 - only a little far from the old town and malecon.
I'm looking to spend about the same on my next visit, must be girl friendly (ie. without a sign-in fee). Does anyone have any good recommendations to PM to me? I would be most appreciative! Thanks kindly.

Once in town stop a taxi in the street, pay 100-150 pesos, or call apolo-taxi, nr. 37500 (not sure, ask the hotel) they come to your hotel or the place you want, charge between 100-200 pesos depends on destination.
Have a good time,

Hello all,
I was in SDQ about a year ago. had a great time. I stayed at the Intercontinental. You could walk to Cisne, Elegant Center, Mona Lisa's. I also enjoyed Azul Casa and a few others.
Here is my question. I have been reading about shut downs and closures. Is the action close to what it was yet? Are most of the spots reopened?
I was actually planning a trip. Originally to BC with the idea that if it was bad I could head back to SDQ. But then the crackdowns occurred. I was now looking hard at San Jose CR. But the posts on here made me think I should post on here and get the scoop.

The metur address is a bit misleading, it is in walking distance (3min) to the Malecon.
Remington, La Parada and Jaragua-Hotel about 10 min, so you dont need a taxi.
Enjoy,

The address "zona universitaria is a bit misleading, actually it is 5minutes walk to la ceniza, 5-7 minutes from Remington, so you dont spend money for taxi.
Enjoy,

I finaly found a hotel that answers my reservation email! O what joy. Well when I arrive (27 sept) I will stay 3-4 days at the Metur Hotel in Zone Universitaria. The oweners are Germans, so i won't be afraid to run out of Bratwursts or Beer (that said is giving B & B an whole other meaning!!).
It looks like a small, decent GIRLFRIEND Friendly hotel.

Just what I need:-) Well I see how things develop with my amiga. If it gets too complicated i will have to find other chicas.
If any of you guys are in the Santo Domingo area and want to meet, PM me.
Keep you folks posted.

Friends,
Much of what Ford and Johan say is correct. However the way I see it is that because you have these business travelers and regular mongers co-existing what is happening is that you have parallel markets.
In any case you have always had the parallel domestic market which included the locals and the foreign market which included these two levels of mongers.
What is happening is that the foreign market is being serviced at different levels. It is still possible to get close to domestic market rates with the chicas. Brush up on your Spanish and see how easy it is.
The girls aren't stupid enough to price themselves out of the far more active lower grade monger market or even to forget the domestic crowd that will remain with them even if a hurricane wipes out the place and the guys in expensive suits stay away.
