According to the article, one of the owners and the manager were charged with human trafficking, it says that the investigation started in the state of Sonora and it lead them to adelitas.

I'm guessing that they crossed the line into pimping, you see, in Mexico prostitution is legal but pimping is not, in other words, you can sell your own body but no one can make money or sell somebody's else's body, that's why prostitution is legal but pornography is not.

At the end, HK, Adela's and the sort are just bars selling drinks, whatever deal is made between the patrons of the bar is between them and the bar shouldn't get involved, now these businesses have been dancing dances around this thin line for decades selling all the "accesories" around the prostitution deal.

This was always my understanding. My 1st year was like 8 yrs ago. And back then their was certainly a bigger separation between hotel, and the clubs. The girls were relaxed, happy to see you, happy to go to your hotel, full of joy, it was no hassle to walk I to Cascadas or Adelitas hotel get a room and nobody was bothering us. I never had a girl use a alarm and I never had a knock. But now its not the case. Just another reason I would not be surprised to see the whole industry come to an end at some point. At least the public version ther3's always gona be escorts.

Yup. If you go to other Mexico Cities that does not have a zona norte such as Mexico City, what you will find is that there is prostitution spread out all over the city with very little monitoring. And the result is that you have chicas working right outside of more respectable businesses. Nothing wrong with the chicas, but you also have a lot of parasites that follow them like pimps. And the next thing you know, you have a lot of criminality involved. Same here in the states. You cannot really ban the practice.

So I think that Tijuana has it right in that they have limited prostitution (and pimps) to a geographical area, and they are able to manage it with taxes and licenses and other means.

Therefore, I don't think the Zona Norte will go away.

The term can apply to societal / cultural issues in general though, yes, it is most frequently applied specifically to race (though that's not how it was applied here).

Social culture in the USA Is COMPLETELY different than it is in Mexico my man, don't see the Zona Norte bars shutting down anytime soon (at least as a whole, though do agree that Adelitas is in a bit of danger now). "Woke" politicians don't have nearly the same influence in Mexico that they have in the USA, especially when you have so many non-"woke" politicians in MX that can be paid off. I mean you have a church smack dab in the middle of Adelitas and HK that still operates three days a week and has actually been in continuous operation for over 75 years. You think that would fly in the USA? (LOL).

The fact that in Mexico, unlike the USA, this is all perfectly legal also obviously helps tremendously. Bottom line. As long as this stuff is all legal and as long as these bars have the $$$ to pay the right people off, Zona Norte isn't shutting down any time soon. IMO it would take something completely out there like a mass shooting for them to even consider it. Based on what I've seen the mistreatment of women certainly isn't going to lead to a shutdown.

42nd Street in NYC were the shops with porn magazines and "peep shows" where for 25 cents / 1 min. You could watch porn movies or live naked dancers. There was also a live sex show on the corner of 42nd Street and 8th Avenue. That's all. Because prostitution in NYC was illegal. Meanwhile in Tijuana you have a "zone of tolerance" (Zona Norte) where prostitution is legal. The "tolerance zone" is a good system not only in Tijuana but in many cities around the world where the city government wants to keep legal prostitution in one concentrated place.

I don't think nyc compares to Tijuanas playground. That area in nyc during that time just seemed like a nasty area to be around for scum, cum stained theater seats, viewing booths, and smelly sex shows. No thanks.

Tijuana zona Rosa is here to stay for many more years to come.

But unlike many of the other closures (which to my understanding were generally handled by local authorities), it seems you have the Mexican federal government involved this time. So we'll see. Would be a shame as I actually prefer Adelitas laid-back bar atmosphere to the nightclub atmosphere in HK, even if the women aren't as high-quality.

Living on the East Coast my whole life the spring weather in Southern California / Tijuana was something that surprised me when I first started going down there. Assumed (maybe just from TV or whatever) that it was always sunny and warm down there around that time. Was borderline shocked hanging out in LA and other parts of Southern Cal in May and needing a jacket a bunch of nights because it was so chilly. I guess that has to do at least in part with the proximity to the ocean.

To the west of the Rocky Mountains, summer can be hot during the day but cools down at night. The closer you are to the ocean the temperature is cooler because the breeze blows from the ocean except for the Santa Ana wind. There is generally no oppressive humidity. The water in the ocean is cool because of the current from Alaska. To the east of the Rocky Mountains, in summer, the day and night can be hot and the humidity can be oppressive. OMG I remember those hot and humid nights in Chicago and New York with no air condition.
