I researched the issue some more. Manufacturers mix all sort of chemicals to render the drinks darker colors. Those chemicals cause the hang overs and other ill effects. The clear drinks are less likely to cause hangovers.

Looks like the red Malbec was the culprit. Most Malbecs have that bitter chemical / medicinal taste similar to the cheap bulk wines produced in California. It's not the bitter taste of grapes, more likely chemicals.

I heard from many good sources, that in most Asian countries, the expensive liquors, cognacs, scotches, whiskeys etc. Are all counterfeits, imitated local brews spiked with chemicals and refilled in bottles with fake labels. Even brand name beers like Heineken are local fakes refilled in bottles.

When travel overseas, it's safer to avoid all local drinks, fruit juices, wines, draft beers and liquors. Drink only major and popular beer brands in the cans as they are more difficult to counterfeit and tamper with. The cans can be filled and sealed only by machines. They are harder to fake.

Back in college a buddy was puking what looked to be black oil after mixing red wine and beer. We though he was going to die because he looked like an alien was trying to pop out of his chest. As far as I know, one can mix alcohol unless it's red wine.

Went to Tijuana for the 1st time, spent most the night in Hong Kong, walked there from the border and taxi back. Let's look at this from the girl's standpoint.

The ficha drinks are a lot like foreplay. It's a good way to "get to know" the girl a bit. If you get along well at the table, chances are that you'll get along well upstairs. And sometimes it can be fun (albeit expensive) to just hang out and drink / chat with the girl.

Now my point is that the girl gets a whopping 30 pesos from every ficha drink. That's about $2 in real money. The Tequila guy rents that expensive job, going around squirting watered-down Tequila down your throat, squirting beer in, then shaking your head to make you drunk. He keeps all propinas for that job. I usually give him $3.

Locals sometimes mix insecticides in their brew to enhance the buzz. But excessive consumption may kill you. So be careful what you drink on the road. Stick to canned beers as the cans cannot be easily counterfeited or tampered with.

Glad you had fun at HK, and thanks for your report. Yeah that guy with the whistle will get you drunk fast with his bottle, if that's you aim. He will pour both beer and tequila down your throat, that combo will fuck you up super fast. If you see him on the stage doing this, volunteer and be part of the show, the bald head manager will usually give you some kind of coupon for the spectacle.

Instead of buying drinks, just walk up to any chica, feel her out and tip her a couple of dollars. It is expected, if you walk around, especially along the ramp that connects the north to south side, they will stick their a $$es out for you to pet. For half the price of a fischa, you can have your 5 minutes of boobie time. If you my make a connection, buy them a drink and use that time to negotiate arriba.

Yo Jeb glad you had a good time. Thing with girls is they want you to go upstairs to make their cash. Girls schedules are erratic so most likely not. This playboy club is sleazy, rundown, filthy place with holes in the walls, grimy floor ect. The place smells sweaty and shiitty. The girls are old, ugly, nasty-looking, have been reported to rip off guys and act nasty. I don't know why a few guys insist it's a nice place to hang out.

The cubicles behind the small stage are tiny and dark. The guys would take the old, ugly girls into the cubicle then you would hear the furniture creaking and banging in there. These people actually try to have sex in those cramped and smelly closets.
