    Tips in bars

    Jinxx.

    Waiters in most US bars and restaurants split tips with the kitchen staff at shift ends. They always complain violently with their friends that clients are too cheap on tips.

    HK club may be different. Bar tenders and meseros leave their shift separately. One time I was at the meseros' shift-end muster in their lockers room on third floor before they went home. Did not see any collection of tips from meseros to split with anyone. AFAIK meseros keep all tip money to themselves.

    If you can, ask bar tenders or managers if they are allowed to keep tips from clients or have a split with meseros at shift ends.

I used to show up to a club, not spend one single peso inside the club, and grab a chica to go straight arriba. Slowly I started realizing jeez I should let these people at least make something, so I'll order a drink or a ficha just to put a little money in their pocket and gain a little popularity. A little bit goes a long way especially outside of HK and especially on a slow night. But I always make sure to "set the tone" with my mesero like hey I'm going to take care of you but don't try to play me like I'm a chump.
    It may come as a surprise, but the meseros in HK have to pay to work there. I forget the amount. Weekends cost more than weekdays. I think I've heard that the weekend rate is $40/ day, but I am not positive.

    The point is that meseros IMO would never tip anybody because they have to hustle and scam and cheat in order to make that daily nut, just to they can turn some kind of profit at the end of the day. Add a shitton of meseros, far more than is really necessary, and you have fierce competition for every peso, and an atmosphere ripe for ripoffs.

    Was thinking of just that last month. Hoping they will also extend from 3 to 4 month so they can attract the business back. Lots of people lost their job.

    ClamSlammer, you were one of the other people that I was hoping would respond to my post. I read your posts on here quite a bit. You seem pretty knowledgeable, especially when it comes to life in Zona Norte & I've learned quite a bit. Also, your choice of words is often so eloquent. For example, "imbecile". What a great word. I don't hear it often enough, as I usually only get called "moron" or "dumb ass". So, thanks!

    Finally, a little side note here: I contribute when I can on this board but it's not nearly as much as I would like & that's simply because I can't find the time. Now, with all my shit cancelled or moved until way later in the year, I've got nothing but time! So, that being said, this is actually the first time in my life that I've gotten involved in an online debate &, well, I'm as giddy as a school girl! I know we're talking about waiters & it's on a forum for men to discuss hookers in Tijuana but, hey, you got to start somewhere, right?

    All jobs are easy. To the guy who has never done it.

    Years ago, and I forget the reasons, my son worked as a janitor for a brief period of time. Now any half-wit can sweep a floor, right? Well, he had an older "mentor" who taught him the ins and outs. One day years later he was assisting me in sweeping out my shop. I had no idea how involved something as simple as sweeping a floor can be. It all depends on how well you want to do it, and how much pride you take in your work. Much like anything else.

    What infuriates me these days is that so much of the service industry has taken it right in the shorts. All the talking heads are pontificating about sheltering in place, and don't leave, and it's for your own good. Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of people in the service industry are facing serious economic disaster. But who gives a shit about those people, anyway?

    I'm a bartender and serve also, I'm not going to say it's a difficult job, but it's definitely not a job most people can do, it can be tough. However, us people working in the service industry make pretty good money, plus I only work 25 ish hrs a week giving me plenty of time for school and hobbies.

    After the first three HK meseros short changed me, scammed me, took away a chica's drink half full, harassed me, embarrassed me, tried to intimidate me, starred me down in front of my chica, I stopped giving a fuck about how hard his job is, because I am too busy worried about him stealing my money.
