Every time I am asked "What did you do in Mexico?

I always reply "Spending time with the chicas".

Never an issue, although I tend to get chuckles from the male border agents.

And pained frowns from the female agents.

It was kind of funny, years ago the CBP dog hit on me when I was headed to walk into Mexico. Supposedly they are looking for 10 K or more dollars leaving the USA The dog was very interested in my right front pocket. The agents then conducted a search in that pocket they found about 40 to 50 $1 bills. The male agent gave me a wink and a" I know where you are headed " and sent me on my way saying have fun. And the female agent who seemed new and being trained stood there clueless.

It's as simple as that. They don't care what you did. They are looking for "tells." Sweating, nervousness, body language indicating you're lying or hiding something. They are not the morality police and you could tell them you were banging h0's and there's nothing they could / would do about it. But just keep it simple. Visiting GF. Visiting friends. Sightseeing. They won't ask names.

You can tell them whatever you want, just don't lie, because lying to a federal officer is an offense. Tell them you were partying downtown- they hear it all day and know exactly where you were and what you were likely doing, so don't be bashful. If they ask for more details, tell them you went to HK.

Just don't bring back anything you aren't supposed to. Remember that while some stuff might be legal in certain States or Over The Counter in Mexico, if it's illegal Federally or considered a controlled substance, bringing it across could get you in trouble. Same goes for taking stuff into Mexico. Just don't.

If you are a US Citizen they cannot deny you re-entry into the US. They can give you all kinds of shit, and send you to secondary, but they cannot deny entry back into your own country. So long as you are not breaking any laws on re-entry, they'll eventually cut you loose. Bring proper ID and you'll be fine.

It literally doesn't matter what you say honestly, as long as it's nothing illegal and you're not bringing anything into the USA That you're not supposed to be bringing in. I usually just say I was on a short vacation and say I went to a bunch of different places in Tijuana while I was there if they want me to elaborate. Like Playas, Zona Rio, Zona Norte, etc. (which is usually actually the truth). But it really doesn't matter what you say, they're not going to do anything. You could actually tell them you were at Hong Kong fucking prostitutes the entire weekend. There's nothing they can do about that (though I've never actually told them that LOL).
