cascadas has raised their rates! it is not really that great a place either. that is one thing i do not like about tijuana. in los algodones and in mexicali i can easily find a hotel for $20 per night that is safe and near the action. i have always used cascadas because i like the hong kong club so when i do a hong kong girl i figured that way i would not have to pay for the room. in effect i would be paying for 2 rooms if i did not use them. especially now since cascadas has raised their rates $10 per night as they are up to $55 a night now i am beginning to rethink the wisdom in this logic. i really do not care how good the room is as i do not spend very much time in it anyway. i do not care if the bathroom is shared by other rooms and down the hall. if someone on here knows of cheaper hotels close to the zona that are safe in a place where you can safely walk to let me know, i would be interested in hearing from you more experience tijuana mongers. i can tell you the hotel deals in los algodones and mexicali if you ever decide to go to one of those places.

i got in my room and found that i did not even have a towel. the problem was i did not find out until after i had taken my shower. after driving 6 hours i was smelling pretty bad so i wanted to shower. i had to improvise using my pants as a towel and then after i threw on some new clothes i went back and asked for a couple of towels. it took them over an hour to get me a couple of towels in my room. cascadas raised their rates and their service is going down hill! i definitely am going to explore other hotels. after i finally got the towel situation done i rested a bit because i had a wild night ahead! i rested for maybe an hour and then i got up and started the adventure.

i went into hong kong just to see what was working this evening. i was not quite ready to indulge yet as the night was still young. i was not that impressed. hong kong did not have a very good selection this time. in the past they have always had the best but this time it was not very good. i left and went over to adelitas.

as i was walking down the street there was this old lady in a wheel chair that came up begging me for money. every single trip i have been to tijuana on she has been there. i am beginning to think that she lives on avenue coahuila. i always ignore her based on the readings here that say you should never talk to strangers down there because they might be drug dealers and if a cop sees you talking to a drug dealer they will arrest you just for talking. this lady in the past has tried to set me up with ladies and she has tried to sell me drugs and i always walk straight past her but she is persistent and follows me. she is beginning to annoy me. she always tells me that she is on a youtube video somewhere and she is famous so probably others here have seen here. if anyone here can tell me how to get her to shut up i would appreciate it because she is really annoying.

if you ever need advice, please reach out and read past postings so you can get the feel of the land. yeah, i was there this past weekend and was a little disappointed in hk myself. don't know why but it seems like the b shift was in and the a shift took a vacation. a far as prices go, yes, cascadas did raise their rent. also, $80 for an hour is a bargain since most only will stay for 30 min. the taco stand is world famous, there are actually 2, the other one is on the other side of the block of hk around the corner. as far as needing a translator, you don't really need one down there, i go there frequently and have some basics and thats all i need. most of the people that work in hk or ab has a basic understanding of english so you are good. there are some that are no english at all tho. as for the cabbie, thats the first i've heard of them taking you to the wrong border. you mustve said some thing to him to take you to otey. i just say border in english and have always been dropped off in ysidro. anyways, my point is read the board, there are fellow mongers there too that maybe cool to hang out with and guide you through tijuana when you come down.

The most important feature I need is one where you can type what you want to say in English, then the spanish translation shows up and then with the push of a button you can text the translation without having to retype the whole translation. Yes indeed it is on the Jibbigo 2 app for Android (If you use iPhone they call it Jibbigo Plus, same app, just a different name). The original Jibbigo does not do that but Jibbigo 2 / Jibbigo Plus does that. Same price and very similar functionality. What I would suggest you do on Jibbigo is to try it out. They allow you to try it for a day. If you hate it they will refund you. Besides, it is only $5.

Jibbigo was originally developed by a Carnegie Mellon professor to be used by people who work as relief workers in third world countries where there is no data connection available. That is why it does not use data. I am sure that this professor would be shocked now though to know his product is being used to pick up ladies in the Zona Norte now though.......LOL

I have Google Translator on my Android Samsung S phone and it is excellent. It translates in many languages. You can say what you want and it will translate (most of the time). Or you can also type it in. It also has a conversation mode that I think would allow you to hand the phone to the other person and their words would also be translated, although I have not used that feature. It also saves translations from your past input.

The only downside is that you must be connected to a WiFi source for it to work. I used it last week in Costa Rica and it worked well. I have also used the Korean language for my MP visits.

Google Translator is very good if you are able to use data. When I am in Tijuana though I end up in a roaming situation and it is like incredibly expensive to use data. One time when I was in Los Algodones I had a girl in a club who wanted to be my Facebook friend so I pulled my phone out and added her. Mind you that is the only data I used. When I got home I had a bill of $58. 00 worth of international roaming. I was not on Facebook for even 3 minutes.

Jibiggo does not use data. It is fully self contained. Because of this it is a HUGE file so I do recommend if you decide to buy it to get a sd card for your smartphone. It costs $5 to buy. You can see it at www.jibbigo.com. It I available on Android and Iphone.

The other good thing that I Ilike about it is that it separates the Castilian Spanish (the Spanish that is spoken in Spain) from the Mexican Spanish. The Spanish that is spoken in Spain is slightly different than the Spanish spoken in Mexico. They pronounce things a bit different and they have a few different slang words. It is sort of like when someone from America talks to an Englishman or an Australian. To my knowlege, Jibbigo is the only translator app out there that has separate translators for Mexico and Spain. Most translators use Spain for everything so you risk telling someone that you need to "coger" a bus like I did one time. ROFL. Those of you that knows what "coger" means in Mexico versus what it means in Spain will get this. LOL. You will save a ton of money on data useage charges with Jibbigo since it does not use a data connection like the Google Translator. I have found that when I am inside the Cascadas motel I can easilty hook up to their wi fi (the Cascadas Wi-Fi password is 1234567890). This wi-fi though does not seem to be powerful enough to make it into the Hong Kong Club or Adelitas. That is when Jibbigo works better. I use Google Translator in the cascadas where I can use their wi-fi but Jibbigo in the clubs where data useage is an issue.

Saturday night at HK turned out to be quite a fun surprise. I had the pleasure of sharing a booth with the notorious Tomjackin.

The lady in the wheelchair is Yolanda, she is somewhat famous as far as the Zone Norte goes. Not to long ago she was hit by a garbage truck while chasing her little doggie. Rumor on the internet had her dying after the accident. Someone even posted a big long eulogy. After reading the eulogy I only had wished I was nicer to her when she was alive. And then about a month or 2 later she was back again this time in a wheelchair. As far as cabs go you are better off walking past the first barrage of yellow cabs continue down the sidewalk cross the first street you come to. To your right you will see a Mcdonalds, take a step to your left you will see a line of cabs, in the back window of the cabs it will usually say Econocab. Offer 3 dollars to HK or what ever club you choose and you should have no problem and that will leave you with an extra 2 dollars for tacos or whatever.

It was a yellow cab. To my knowlege, only the yellow cabs pick up at the border. I have never seen a white cab at the border when I entered.

I should have said something when we starterd driving by the airport. I thought it was strange when I started seeing the Tijuana airport as I had never seen that on my previous trips.

How much does the Nelso go for per night? If my memory is correct that hotel is right next to the arch. Is it a safe walk to the zona from there?

The Nelson had to drop its prices a while back. I think the Ticuan really cut into its business. Last I checked, a room is about $40. Ask for a higher room. The street noise can be intense, although not like it was in years past.

That bit of Primero, between Revu and Constitucion is a bit seamy. But it's safe to walk it, if you are aware of your surroundings and check your 6. Walk in the street if it makes you feel safer. I think the north side, by Dragon Rojo, is a bit less seedy than the opposide near Rio Verde. BTW, Dragon Rojo is a rather trendy local joint. El Fracaso, next door, is chock full of girl-next-door chicas who do the $1 / dance thing and are happy to go next door to the Hotel DF, which has some fairly nice short-time rooms. Although you wouldn't know it from the outside. Spanish is a must, but fluency isn't mandatory.

The above is predicated on traversing it reasonably early. I have no idea how bad it gets between, say. 2:00am and 5:00am.

when you arrived, did you take a yellow cab to adelita? yellow cabs operate on the zone model. it's a flat fee from the taxi stand to the area of your destination. from the border to the zona norte it's $5. period. whether you want to go to ab, hk or la perla. they may or may not get commissions from the bars, but that's not your concern. the rate is $5. don't take any shit from them, and don't ask. just tell them where you want to go and get in. sit in the front. give him $5 at the end.

the vip areas do not have beds, etc. this would run counter to mexico's anti-brothel laws. technically, a bar like hk with beds for customers' use would qualify as an illegal brothel. ymmv, and reports abound of guys getting fs in vip. if you need to stay within walking distance of the zona, try hotel nelson. it's a 5 minute walk to adelita. it has a nice old school watering hole bar, good for chilling, and the food is pretty decent. it's also really, really old, complete with shuddering elevator and creaky floors.

it was a yellow cab. to my knowlege, only the yellow cabs pick up at the border. i have never seen a white cab at the border when i entered.

i should have said something when we starterd driving by the airport. i thought it was strange when i started seeing the tijuana airport as i had never seen that on my previous trips.

how much does the nelso go for per night? if my memory is correct that hotel is right next to the arch. is it a safe walk to the zona from there?
