Sean do you realize how lucky we are to be born in the US. We hit the birth lottery. I lost my job because of the coronavirus. 2 weeks ago I received what I thought was my final check. This morning I checked my bank account and I saw 1800 dollars deposited in my account. I freaked. I checked to see where it came from and lo and behold the company I worked for decided to give everyone a 2 week severance type payment to help us out until we get back to work. I'm not even full time there. The company didn't have to do that for us.

On top of that, I will be getting 1200 from the government that they printed out of thin air. On top of that, I will be getting a extra 600 a week on top of my unemployment check. I am going to make more money off this virus than I ever could have made working. These girls in mexico and Colombia won't get any money when this whole economy collapses. They will be starving. The difference between us and them is I was born here and they were born there. You think when I can get back to Colombia or Tijuana I won't spread the wealth a little bit after all the free money I'm getting in the next 6 months. You damn right I am. I won't be stupid with it but I will be tipping girls that provide good service and I enjoy being with. Have a heart man. Quit looking at life as for me to win they have to lose.

The worse aspect of this virus is the effect it will have on the girls. You have a very admirable positive attitude.

I ask you to consider a waiter. Is it difficult for him to bring a plate of food from the kitchen to your table? No, not necessarily. However, is it difficult for him to 1. Bring the CORRECT plate of food, just the specific way you ordered it, keeping it separate from all of the other gluten-free / kosher / allergic to tree nut orders he has to deal with during that hour while 2. Being harassed by the asshole at table 12 who is yelling at him about his great dislike of the shape of the restaurant's parking lot, all while 3. Smiling & joking with you enough to make your dining experience a truly pleasurable one? You better believe it's fucking difficult.

I guess there's two different definitions of "easy" when it come to a job. "Easy" as in it's an easy task to perform like carrying a plate of food. And "easy" as in easy to learn, requiring little or no training / education / intelligence. A garbageman's job can be defined as the second definition of easy. Whether it meets the first definition is debatable.

But what you describe above about a waiter's job being difficult, well, not really. You describe tasks in which waiters do not perform, such as making sure the food is prepared the specific way it was ordered and keeping food separated. Those tasks are performed by the cook, not the waiter. And the tasks you describe as "difficult" can only be difficult for people with an IQ below the level of imbecile. You say that bringing the "correct" plate of food is difficult? How hard is to tell the difference between a hamburger and a salad? Not that hard I hope. Bringing the correct food is so easy any 10 year old can do it. And while on rare occasions customer do complain to the waiter about things that are not under his control, like the parking lot, it is extremely rare. Most diners' complaints involve quality of food or poor wait service such as forgetting to bring requested items. Overall, a waiter's job is extremely easy. Greet customer, write down their order, relay the order to the cooks, carry plates to the table. Follow up a couple times to make sure food is satisfactory and offer refills and condiments. It's about as easy a job as there is.

The chicas has a presumption that Asians are rich. So they start negotiation high. And they sometimes go into their puta hissy fit when I won't pay the $100 premium. I get it from HK meseros too about tips but often give them the bird, the international sign to fuck off.

I tip because she's providing a service. And those beautiful ladies, along with waiters that serve me in restaurants, bartenders & a whole bunch of other service workers that I deal with, receive tips from me. And the reason I tip for services is three-fold: 1. A lot of folks actually depend on tips to make ends meet & I feel for them. 2. I appreciate how difficult it is to work in the service industry & tipping is my way of showing my appreciation. 3. Tipping 20% is just so set in the way that I do business with people that it would be hard for me to change it at this point. When I'm on tour in other countries, I often get chastised by the locals for over-tipping. Such is life. If that's the worst thing that happens that day, I can somehow find a way to live with it.

If you were doing any of the above mentioned jobs, I would tip you as well. Well, you'd have to be extra nice if you were doing the bar girl job. I'd expect DFK, too.

That sort of tipping may be "appreciated" but it's really not part of the Mexican culture. If you contract with somebody to do something for a specific price, you pay it and no more. Unless there's something extraordinary. They don't tip taxis because the fair is negotiated beforehand. They wouldn't tip the plumber or the painter.

I hear you but again, it's just the way I do business, in the US & elsewhere. I sometimes tip painters & plumbers, as well, especially if they go out of their way to do extra work, etc. Also, when a customer service rep on the phone does a great job for me, I go out of my way to find out the contact info of their supervisor & then I send them an email explaining in detail why I feel that the CSR was exceptional.

Lots of guys say the girls asked for $100, they negotiated down to $80 and then tipped $20. That seems to defeat the purpose.

Regardless, I only use pesos and I would rarely tip the girls, outside of maybe rounding up to the nearest 500 pesos, I. E. If we settled on 1400 I would give 1500. The exception, as stated above, is if she went above and beyond. My last threesome I tipped the hooker (the other was a pseudo-GF) nicely because she went above and beyond, allowing BBFS and other things. IIRC it was around 500 pesos, but we'd all been at it for over an hour.

As far as meseros go I hate their guts. They drive me crazy and ruin the experience. You sit down with a girl and they interrupt you constantly about buying a drink. They are exhausting. I don't miss HK at all. I prefer dejavu now for the laid back atmosphere and cool waiters that don't bother you unless you call them over. I wouldn't get your hopes up. People thinking that normalcy will come back in a couple weeks or a month have been kidding themselves. All these weekly bans and shelter rules are going to keep getting extended over and over again. I'the be surprised if we're able to step foot into a bar by Christmas. Sports is already shutdown through the summer. That should tell you there's not going to be any public gathering anytime soon. But that's the US perspective. Americans overtip. The rest of the world laughs about this. I think it's good to tip well if you liked / appreciated the service (although some people don't being tipped). I wouldn't tip a hooker. Especially that many of them (not just in Mexico) earn more than an average member of this forum.
