Whatever the AVERAGE life expectancy is, it is an AVERAGE. There are as many people who die after that age as there are who die before it. So if everyone dies when they reach that age, the average drops dramatically.

I did talk to one mesero a few months ago and he mentioned a shot he got that helped protect him from catching a cold or something. There's no vaccine against the common cold. What your mesero got was probably an influenza vaccine. They often (but not always) help reduce the likelihood of your getting the flu, and the severity if you do get it.

Injections are very common from Mexican doctors. The health system is not advanced at all. All I can say is things are done very differently than in the US. The mentality is entirely different. Mexicans believe injections solve a lot. Ask them what the injection is, or what it treats, they cannot answer. From friends and situations I know of, these injections might be just one step short of a with doctor in many cases.
