Hi All, I visited Cascades a few years ago, am thinking of visiting again. As I recall, when I went to check in, they required my passport (they may have said they'll take a driver's license as an alternative -I don't recall), said they were going to hold onto it while I stayed. Is it your experience that they require and retain a passport or driver's license?

And if so, is this true of many (all?) other hotels in the Zone?

Never heard of Cascadas (or any Zona Norte hotel) holding on to a passport. In my experience, if you pay with a credit card, they do ask for your ID (whether it be passport, drivers license, or some other valid photo ID) just so they can make a photocopy and then they give it right back then and there. Them holding onto it doesn't even make sense. In theory you might need that ID as identification in case policia ask you for it when you're out and about in Tijuana. Or there might be establishments in Tijuana that ask to see photo ID where you'd need it, for example one of the Caliente Casinos if you're signing up for a membership card.

Cascadas front desk staff do not ask for ID if you pay for room with cash.

If you pay with credit card they take a copy of your drivers license.

Not sure about the hotel, but HK does require an ID to purchase the VIP card (cash or credit).
