Using a brokerage ATM card does not seem like a good idea. Just remember that brokerage accounts do not fall under FDIC regulations. So if someone were to skim your card then chances are you would not be reimbursed. Not entirely sure about fraud reimbursement. But you should investigate it. !!

Sorry, guys. I should have been more specific. My Schwab Bank debit card is issued not by the brokerage, but by Schwab's FDIC-insured bank.

I've had my card skimmed from the ATMs outside of Hong Kong back in July 2018, got an automated voice message from schwab about fraud, called Schwab and they confirmed it was skimmed and someone withdrew $100 in Texas. After I checked my account and the money was reimbursed.

Using a brokerage ATM card does not seem like a good idea. Just remember that brokerage accounts do not fall under FDIC regulations. So if someone were to skim your card then chances are you would not be reimbursed. Not entirely sure about fraud reimbursement. But you should investigate it. !!

The next time that you go inside of Hong Kong Bar, do yourself a favor. Look around. Are the tables filled with Mexican Nationals spending their pesos? Or are their tables filled with United States citizens spending US dollars?

The Hong Kong Bar in recent years offers an "in house" exchange rate that is terrific if you want to spend pesos.

Similarly their exchange rate is horrible if you come in there, with your dollars, ready to spend them.

HK's non-market exchange rate is good, daresay great, for a business filled with customers spending United States Federal Reserve notes, usually called dollars.
