Actually, the recommended coconut oil sold by Walmart (Carringtons?) is refined and odorless to make it liquid at room temperature, but I would not substitute any other type of oil, as it is reportedly the lauric acid in the coconut oil that has the disinfectant properties. Like in the movie "Lorenzo's Oil", certain oils have a medical effect and substituting motor oil for coconut oil will not help you against infection, if you are trying to save a few bucks with cheaper oil. If you are going to use something else, I would suggest a more expensive unrefined coconut oil from a health food store.
