When I stayed at the Morazan, 3-years ago, I was charged $15 for guests. I can't speak for their current policies.
I'm guessing there are different levels of mongering. I'm not into SJ to see how many chicas I can bag, preferring quality in the ones I do end up with. If the essence of your trip is to do everything for the cheapest price, more power to you. I know a lot of "mongerers" who stay at the Del Ray and pay $90 (+) a nite plus the guest fee. It all depends on what you're willing to part with money wise. However, as a fellow senior member, I've always been an advocate to get folks to stop paying the Columbian asking price of $100. That's what ruins it for everyone.

"Its about as anti-hobby as the Morazon"? That is a bit of a stretch. How much does the Morazon charge to bring guests back? That $15 is at least 5 times more than the Morazon charges on even its worst day, so the Balmoral is hardly on the same level (now, as for the HDR, don't expect me to say anything to defend their greedy policies).
And your solution about sneaking in by acting like a regular couple is hardly a valid argument in support of the contention that the Balmoral is pro-monger. If they were really pro-monger or at least charged what could be argued was a reasonable fee, then one wouldn't feel like they really needed to sneak in to avoid it. You're absolutely right about one thing though, not having to sneak your guest in (or feeling you need to because the fee is too high) IS definitely pro-monger. A small fee or better yet no fee at all and the tiny amount of inconvenience to sign your guest in properly is well worth it for the added security.
Balmoral may not be the most anti-hobby hotel in the Gulch, but you'll never convince me they really welcome us as long as they charge the chica fee that they do.

It's about as anti-hobby as the Morazan and Del Ray. They both charge for guests.
If it's during the day and you go in looking as a couple, you can get by at times.
I'm not upset about the extra security, for a small price.

I'll be arriving before noon August 29 and staying until September 6. I will be sleeping at the Castillo, but probably will be hanging at Sportsmans most of the time.
The Balmoral is a nice hotel, but they are very anti-hobby. hope you have a back-up plan for where to take the girls you meet in BM/KL. There are a couple of short time hotels close by, but someone else here will have to fill in the blanks, one is Hotel Asia and is very trashy, the other is __________, and is supposed to be pretty nice, I just can't remember the name.

I'll be heading down over Labor Day weekend, Thursday - Monday, going solo. My usual travel buds are going to be in Lima, Peru. This will be my 4th trip to SJ and don't venture far from the BM and DR, staying at the Balmoral. If anyone wants to meet up for cocktails and swap some stories, hit me up.
Or, if anyone is arriving around on the 28th, be nice to split cab fare to the city.

Your best bet is to hang out at Sportsmans Lodge. There will be many potential wingmen there, and they would all love for you to buy them many rounds of jager bombs while they tell you what to do.

I will be in San Jose from 8/6-12. I'm coming solo and would like to link up with someone to have a few rounds, first one on me! BTW, I'm waiting for confirmation from SL for a room.

Posts: 196In SJO for one night, August 23
If anyone would like to meet up somewhere for a drink, send me a PM. I will be staying at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel, and I am sure that I will go into town and look for a companion at Blue Marlin, Sportsmen, etc. Sometimes nice to meet other forum guys and just hang out, have a drink, trade stories and make commentaries on the ladies. Plus, strength in numbers, I always say.
