Scuba diver heading to Cocos Island. I will be overnight in SJO 8/25 and 9/5 at the two ends of the trip.

Thanks for the info. I've become a CRT member now. And I am getting a pretty nice discount from Nixon on rooms at the Clarion Amon Plaza. Gotta get me a Colombiana though, so I'll be spending some time at Del Rey and KL!

The CRT bash is for members only, and I believe there is a limit to the number of guests. Regardless, I strongly urge you become a member ASAP. The site is a treasure chest of information on the entire Costa Rica scene, and the member discounts are often enough to offset the annual membership fee. As a matter of fact, CRT membership entitles you to 10% off your lodging, bar, and food bills at the Sportsmens Lodge. BTW, you won't find many Colombianas at the Sportsmens; they mostly hang out at the Del Rey and Key Largo.

Well, in Latin countries it will definitely work against you that you are that young. It ain't NOTHING like America where youth rules.

Be sure to add as many years as you can when you tell them how old you are.

I am 50, but I always tell the chicas I'm 60. I learned from my experience that helps get me lower prices, better service, and more fun.

Besides, I love the look on their faces when they tell me that I must be lying and that I only look 38 or so.

So then I flip out my driver's license to "prove" it. After all, the bar is dark, most can't read English, and they can't calculate my age quickly enough to figure it out anyway.

They assume I must have told the truth if I was confident enough to show them my ID.

The adoration of the youth culture is so deeply ingrained in our American psyche that I expect this little nugget of advice will leave our younger members incredulous. Most will dismiss it out of hand as being completely absurd, but it's true. I strongly recommend that you follow it.

There must be other places like the States where it helps to be younger rather than older (Canada? England?), but certainly not in Latin countries.

I'll be in San Jose for a bachelor party during these days. Will most likely spend some time at SL, since the concentration of Colombianas there seems to be the highest (from what I've gleaned from the various posts). Anyone else around at that time? I've heard there is a big annual CRT bash around the same time too. Wouldn't mind going to that. Anyone got any info about dates/location?
