QUESTION: I was thinking about flying into Quito, traveling by bus to Medellin and/or Cartagena, and then flying home from there. Is this advisable or should I spend the entire trip in Colombia? With the recently rising value of the dollar, where do I get more "bang for my buck"? Should I consider visiting Cali too?

ABOUT ME: I've mongered in Brazil, Europe, China and Philippines but not in other parts of South America. (I once visited Argentina and Uruguay on a non-mongering trip with a European GF.) I speak some Portuguese but not Spanish. Having enjoyed the company of Paisa's in Spain and Canada, I've often dreamed of mongering in Colombia and other South American countries. With luck, I'll be able to do so for 2-3 weeks in late November. I'm young-looking and reasonably attractive for my age (mid-50's, 5'6", white) and I prefer petite women (5'2" or less is great) of any race with a slim-to-medium build and sparkling eyes/attitude/smile.

I have been lurking for a while and just about ready to plan my first trip to Colombia. I was just wondering if any of you travelers know the best (and cheapest) way to get to Medellin from Florida. I have tried several searches, but have not found anything good.

If anyone has the cheap flight hookup, please share. Thank you.

Tuggin, you are in a great spot(FL) for traveling to Central & South America.

You would want to sign up for the newsletters at all the major airlines to get the best deals.

Some of my favorites are:

Hey guys!

I will be in MDE early October and late November with some of my friends. If any of you guys want to meet up for a beer or cold water (I don't drink while out) and compare notes on casas and maybe discover some new ones since there seems to always be some new ones to find let me know.

I will have a report on Frank's place and another advertised place both of which have no reports here that I can find. I am also working on securing an apartment for my November trip unless the Castillo is still having their special which would be a clincher for me! I will have a spot in Centro for a few days as a casa pit stop since they are so cheap. Between the two trips, I hope to have some new information to offer you guys reading the Medellin threads.

Myself and a buddy will be in Cali for Feria de Cali this year. Arriving on Xmas day and departing on Jan 3rd. I have only visited Cali once before for a short period but I was with a novia and had no chance to pursue extracurricular activities.

Would love to share a cerveza or three with any of the Cali regs who may be visiting at this time as well. Also if anyone has any useful info regarding the Cali scene would love to hear it. I have spent too much time in Medellin the last 16 months and need a new city.

ANOTHER thing I am thinking about - I am thinking of renting a 2BR apartment, very nice and posh near Parque 93 and Zona Rosa. If anyone is thinking about coming to stay in Bogota for a longer period of time (e.g., 2-3 wks) and is interested in staying with me (would be much cheaper and nicer than a hotel and in the best areas and I wouldn't mind the company) please feel free to PM me as well.
