Posts: 498The City State Hotel on Mabini
I need the phone number or email to the The City State Hotel on Mabini Street in the Makati (Ermita?) area. I need to ask them a question or two about their bus that runs to Batangas. If anyone still has a card from them with their info or is staying there now, I would greatly appreciate the help.

pals,
i am here in so china now and i will post later.i had a great time in the philippines. i just wish that guys who get offeneded by posts they do not like will simply "skip over them" as i do. as long as it is not some loser looking for **** girls or some geek trying to fuc k with me. i just pass his thread and move on.
if you are purely a sex tourist you will get tons of this here. i am a hedonist and will have my fill of sex when they lower my corpse into the ground. i post my experiences and information that i think will be usefl or assist others in avoiding problems. now quit trashing cebulocal, goodenough and other guys who like to post on various matters here.
guys who waste time insulting others give me the impression they are jealous of these guys. lets keep the philippine board friendly.
i have to get back to fucking my lovely jing here in china now. i will post later.

On certain threads, it seems a lot of information passed back and forth is better suited for a pm. I am not sure it is the place to reaffirm old relationships and self-aggrandizment.
I am interested in experience and information related to mongering, e.g., prices, places, trends, etc.

I feel kinda silly actually posting information about my "travel plans." This forum seems to have become something else - I'm not sure what.
I will arrive in the Philippines and go directly to Angeles City on May 24. I plan to spend 3 nights in AC and then go back to Manila the fourth night as we leave for Bangkok on the 28th. I am hoping to stay in a villa at Fontana, a resort near AC. I think it is in the area where Clark air base used to be. A friend who lives on Manila is making the arrangements.
Let me know if any of you will be in the area and want to get together for a drink or to compare notes.

I just got off the phone this afternoon with Cebu Local, an expat who tells me he receives about 18 PMs a day and responds to every request for information and assistance. It seems to me--from the perspective of an expat of course--this is evidence that some members find his assistance helpful. I do not receive anywhere near that number, but I do receive more than my share, and I try to respond with information if I can. I take this as evidence that some members of this board find some of the information I share to be useful.
As CL implies, the distinction between expat and tourist is at best ambiguous and probably specious. The fact is that, like CL, I'm both. True, I'm an expat in Davao, but I travel all over South East Asia, in which case, I'm a tourist. Funny thing, but whenever I travel to countries and cities to which I've not been before, or to which I've not been for a while, I search for the posts in this board from the expats who live in the place that I'm going to visit. Why? Because I think that living in the place gives them a better feel for what's going on, meaning that their information is probably more current and, (to me) more useful than two-month-old reports from the occassional tourist. Given that local situations , local hotspots, and interesting locales change often, I always felt that the expats would be more on top of things than the day trippers.
As to insights. opinions and perspectives that may sound like a "Ph.D." dissertation, I guess I may be guilty. I am interested in the "whys" of coutries and cultures and in the underlying values. Maybe it's because I'm a social scientist by training. But I see no need to apologize for that. Jackson has been clever enough, in designing this board, to include an "ignore" button. It works well. Therefore, if you don't want to read whatever it is I may have to say, simply put me on your "ignore" list and move on to posts that you find more interesting.
It's true that in the Philippines, I'm not a tourist. Because I live here, I have a fairly wide circle of friends, so I tend to hear about new and interesting places when they come on the scene. In the case of Davao, whenever I see or hear of a new place that I think might be of interest to other guys, I post the information. I'm sure that CL does the same, as do most of the other expats both here and in other countries.
So I give what I can and I take what I need from expats in other places, where I'm a tourist. However, should you insist on making the distinction between the two, perhaps Jackson would be willing to consider starting a new thread called something like "reserved for tourists," or maybe "expat perspectives." Just a suggestion.
:D
