Also anybody have any experiencing crossing into the peruvian border from ecuador? I speak spanish and was thinking about checking it out.

Let's see, you're quoting a post that was made about 9 or 10 months ago. There was a smiley-face at the end of it. And I've been to both Argentina and other South American countries where Mate is the beverage of choice.

I'm pondering burning some frequent flier miles to try mongering somewhere new and relatively off the beaten track. After doing some reading on this delightful site, I'm thinking of Guayaquil. I've never been to South America, though I've mongered elsewhere and traveled to central america and the carib.

Questions: what is the scene likely to be like in September, active? I tend to favor younger (18-24), slender women (slender waists and arms); how will I do in Guayaquil? I read elsewhere here that the girls there are thinner than those in Quito.

I speak decent traveler's spanish but not very good conversational spanish. I look vaguely latino but sound American: what sort of reception can I expect?

For those who have tried both countries, how does Guayaquil compare to Cali or Medellin in Colombia?
