I'm leaving Guate (Capital) Friday morning. Driving to south to Cuilapa on CA-1, then over to El Progreso, Ipala, Chiquimula and stopping in Zacapa. I'm planning on staying in Zacapa until Tuesday morning, then back to Guate / Antigua until I leave. Any pointers or wing men would be appreciated.

This place is even worse than Ipiales, Colombia. hehehehe The highlight of Tecún Umán is this is where the old Guatemalan narrow gauge railroad use to connect with the standard gauge Mexican railroad. But not any longer. Are you looking for a railfan trip, or to chase chubby, skanky women?

Will be in GUATE Dec 1 until Dec 21. My plan is to base myself in GC then take a little side trip to tecun uman and maybe xela.

Obviously I will be staying zona 1. I have zero expectations. All I want is to escape xmas bullshit.

Sorry for the earlier post on my travels. They have changed. I will be arriving into GC on 4/27 AM and depart 4/30 AM to Costa Rica. All those who would like to monger nighttime hours that will be great. As I said before I have not been to Guatemala City or the country for that matter.

I'll be in the city on the night of December 30 only. I'm a 'local' from the country next door.

I have stayed at the cheap hotels down town, about 20 years ago, I hardly remember hitting a 'massage' place once and a bar some other time.

What's the best bang for the buck in down town, Zona 1? I guess this means the best 'barra' or massage place in the area.

Any advice?
