Most interesting though, the inspector told us that mixing with and forming relationships with the local women would be highly frowned upon and could get us into trouble(?).

Needless to say, if he'd seen the KTV hottie who left my bed at 7am that morning, he would have had a bad taste in his mouth. He made the mistake of waiting a week before having his little chat.

The Chinese government has always frowned somewhat on the deportation of their women, so this is nothing new. Thanks to a few female politicians in the USA we now have H.R. 3402 requiring background checks on all men signing up at dating/marriage websites and I assume China is being pressured into this via strongarming.

I did find this paragraph from the article quite amusing:

"Dreaming of living a high life, Ziling, a 29-year-old girl from Shanghai's suburbs, married a Japanese four years ago, only to find her 15-year-old husband was a hot-tempered farmer living in north Hokkaido, reported the Legal Times recently."

Either she's retarded or this 15 year old kid is a Super Monger by pulling in a 29 year old from none other than Shanghai.
