Yes, that's always THE question: what will you do if someone comes to you saying they've been trafficked and asking for help? Or if they're sick, need a doctor, but no money... Could be true, could be a scam.

And she does have BIG problems if her visa has expired. Can't say now, but years ago, that's a fine and jail until she's deported, and jail until she can pay the fine.

The good news is, at least way back when, the UAE HATES bad publicity, and back in the aughts, they set up an organization to help such people. Googling, I found:

Not a panacea, but if she's serious, a place to start. Taking her to the embassy will not help as her visa is expired, and the Vietnam embassy doesn't have anything to do with that. How sympathetic the Viet embassy will be is another question. But the longer she delays, the worse it will be. Best I would do is pass along the info and try and impress on her that the longer she delays, the worse it will be. Eventually she will be caught (if true), and then...
