My initial thanks would go out to WR who suggested his gem.Anne. And trust me "Anne is the Wooo-man" and what a GFE experience it was. It took many meetings with many senior immigration officials over a long three months, and thousands of dirhams. In the end, they finally gave her a regular visa (all above board), and she is now working here with no problems. She had a regular job, and I could prove she was mis-led by her original sponsor, so I guess that helped.

Somehow I even talked the sponsor into signing her release from his sponsorship. At first he refused, as he was scared of the consequences, but after many phone calls where I assured him he was safe from the authorites, he eventually agreed. We met for the first and last time, late one night in a dark carpark so he could sign the documents. He wouldn't accept my offer of baksheesh for his cooperation, but he has since called me asking for a big favour in return. Of course, I helped.

The other route is to PM My Kapitan for advice, he has been through this and would be an excellent source of information.

Lady witout visa since August 2008 needs help

I recently met a very very cute Lady who was working in KuBu Bar, Regal etc. She is from Uzbekistan and was forced into prostitution after getting offered a serious job. Of course the mamasan took her passport and she had to pay 7000 US$ for a "residential" visa.

She now managed to get her passport back and wants to get home as soon as possible. But when I checked her passport there was no residential visa at all (only the old entry tourist visa stamp), so she had been cheated and is here illegally all the time and has no valid visa.

I asked her how she got into the venues without visa and she showed me a copy of a tourist visa with her name, but a closer look disclosed it as a fake where the date had been overcopied.

Now she is very afraid of being arrested/deported either by the UAE authorities or/and the uzbek authorities (she thinks deportation from UAE means jail in Uzbekistan with high probability).

And of course she has not enough money to pay all the overstaying fees.

Does anybody have any idea how to solve this problem? Long time ago I heard something about a possibility in cases like thisone where you pay a fine but far less then the 200DHM/day overdue for 8 months.

Any information is highly appreciated.

As the title says she does not have many options

1) find the money for the penalty for over staying ( 500Dhs first then 100Dhs each day after) then she will be ban a one year from returning to Dubai.

2) get her an open flight ticket for Uzbekistan and let herself get caught she will be deported quickly and will be banned for life from returning to Dubai.

3) Pray the will be an amnesty during the up coming Ramadan in August.
