Was swiping on Tinder, and saw a profile with a generic spa pic and phone number. Most massage centers use photos of asian models, whereas this was a very tame pic of a face massage, so it somehow caught my eye and I ended up messaging the number via Whatsapp. It turned out to be a spa in Tecom, and I received a giant album of pics of several girls. Something usually sparks off these check points and deportation. Could be some warning to the Regal establishment or a complaint from a very influential person. Who knows. If someone claiming to be a policeman stops you on the streets, ask to see his official identity card first, the Sharjah Police have urged residents. "If the person claiming to be a policeman flashes the ID card quickly and you were unable to check it properly, you have every right to ask to see it again," a police officer said.

This came as the police launched an awareness campaign to curb robberies committed by criminals impersonating policemen. A top official said such criminals mostly target Asian nationalities, taking advantage of their unfamiliarity with the Arabic language. They stop unsuspecting residents on the streets, claiming to be from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and rob them.

The police stressed that officers usually ask for ID cards only from people they suspect are wanted in connection with crimes. "The officers do not ask for objects, money or personal belongings," the officer said.

The police have distributed awareness leaflets in Arabic, English and Urdu among residents. Awareness posters will also be posted at shopping centres and clinics.

Col Mussabah Al Ajill, director of the CID, told Khaleej Times that cases of criminals impersonating policemen to commit robberies have come down this year. He attributed this to the police's awareness drives.

According to UAE laws, those caught impersonating cops to commit crimes can be jailed for up to five years.

Well, something like this happened a few years back when I was living there. Coming back from Cirque LE Soir after 3 AM, with two of my cabin crew friends, both dressed for a party like any normal girl on a night out. Taxi was inching out of the side road to get on the main road. Two locals (one in kandurah, the other in sports wear) stopped us, flashed us their ID and asked us all a few questions. The girls had to show them their company ID, before they let us go. If that was me with a regular non-WG pick-up girl, I / we would have had to go through a lot more hassle than this.

I have never heard such thing happening in Dubai. It is important to know what exactly happened. If you were driving from club to home, LE will not stop a car and pick her up. Agree with you AUH, I remembered one Tiger Welsh few years ago. I guess he also came from California for the first time in Dubai.
