There is an obvious AMP right next to where you stay, in front of Spinneys...
you should check. I find it OK. try Suzy. the happy ending is not obvious depending on the tip and the girl. at least u'll get for sure good massage. Tried it 3 times. got frustrated once (first time). But repeat visitors are rewarded.

For renting a car you will need to show a driving licence and IDP. A few years ago you could get away with just a drivers licence, however legislation on the IDP is strictly enforced now.

Frequent visitors can better confirm, but I think you now need a UAE driving permit to rent a car. International Driving licence not sufficient. Nothing expection, but a nuisanca nd time takin gto get one.

here i go, holding my breath and diving right into the deep, sometimes murky, and potentially wrath-incurring world of... you guessed it: field reports!

first, a quick and brief background: i arrived in dubai with my wife in the middle of january after taking the rather reckless step of quitting a reasonably comfortable job back home. vee is my second wife and is kyrgyz. i met her last year while she was enrolled in a master’s degree programme in the university where i worked. so, gentle readers, any partiality that i may show on these forums towards central asian women is, let me assure you, not coincidental!

Yes, I ended up taking a cab each way. The bus-stops were too inconvenient. There is a stop somewhere near Trade Centre, but I couldn't be bothered taking a cab there, then a bus, etc. I pre-booked a cab as per GS advice - 150DH to AD, 200DH back to Dubai (fixed price, no meter).

Piper you took a cab as it is quicker than you driving to Abu Dhabi

But get a car, not scary on the roads and easy.

i have business in both dubai and abu dhabi, and always prefered to rent a car. international driving license is sufficient for non resident, if resident you need a driving license from any of the emirates.

the rent a car is my preference for convenience, flexibility and effectivity.

driving can be hazardous - just check any of the online portals of the local news: a severe mass accident occured yesterday on the route from dubai to abu dhabi. so driving is hazardous, but driving by your own may reduce the risk.

next month it should no more an issue, but beside cabs sometimes car rental can not meet demand thus, prebooking is recommended.

there are nummerous cameras on the route, both in dubai and abu dhabi (emirate) controlling speed. the second issue is the yellow line, which must not be crossed. despite many, not to say most drivers do the yellow line crossing, it is an offence and may lead to the seize of the car.

further check the provided insurance, at local companies you may add your own incusrance. be aware, if you caused an accident you sill stay in custody until investigation is completed.

in some of the emirates, but at least in sharjah, you must not transport any alcohol if not having a license (which resident will get only.)

i spent a lot of hours on the road in the uae, certainly i was shocked occasionally, but finally survived local driving habbits.

be aware your car is not your home - no kissing, no touching, at least not if you want to prevent trouble. bear in mind local legislation and habbits.

Intl DL will only work with Rent A Car, if you are driving a privately owned vehicle, you have to get a temp D/L.

There are several options you could consider depending on your travel budget:

- Dubai Taxi – about AED 250-300 each way (for that money I'd prefer to rent a car)
- Abu Dhabi based Al Ghazal Express (see link below) - AED 150 from DXB to AUH (read report for more details) - Metered ( more expensive) on the return.
- Al Ghazal Bus (small) from central bus station (Al Ghubaibah) in Deira (near gold souk) every hour until 2100 - about AED 15 each way. Goes to central bus station on 4th st in AUH.
- AUH Gold and White cab –a bit grubby and fetid, metered but still cheap (return journey only)
- Emirates Express bus (large) from Al Ghubaibah station to Abu Dhabi central (don’t know price as I’ve never taken it but assume it to be cheap).

If I remember it right Mr Piper has mention this earlier in this thread when he was supposed to travel to Abu Dhabi for a business meeting and some evening mongering

Have been in Dubai for some years now and been in the mongering scene until the wife moved here. In the meantime have been busy with MP's in Dubai some of which closed down with the recent crackdown. Anyhow the wife will be gone on her annual holiday and this time around I am not going along - intentionally planned.

The plan is to visit Rattlesnake, York, Seaview, Kubu and Rockfellers. Will keep posting soon on my travails. Lessons learned in the past and firmly etched in my mind are:
1. No beer googles
2. No drunk women
3. Pay after
4. Collect numbers for nights when not in the mood to go hunting and looking for home delivery or day time action
