WOW. Your quote is quiet high. The official license only cost 30,000 vnd, plus the bribe (not just to anyone, but to the right person) to not have to take any tests or have any license from your home country is about 1mil., plus your photos of about 100k. So total I paid was just under 1.2mil. I received my license in 10 days.

So that makes it about $67 USD and you are asking between $170 and $200 USD. Seems a bit steep in my mind. But then again, I already have my license.

I wish to purchase a car/vehicle for my work. Age is no problem as long as its reliable. I am willing to travel to see. You do not see cars for sale here in Vietnam.

Look in the local english newspapers. There are several companies with vehicles for hire and will also sell them. I have also seen S/H car dealers out in District 5 but can't recall where.

Be aware that driving in HCM is quite crazy with priority given to motorbikes and some wierd turning arrangements. If there is an accident they take it very personally. Parking is also an issue.

For this reason most foreigners do not choose to drive themselves and engage a driver. I use a rented 4WD but will not drive in the city myself.
