Sorry to see you close and as a consequence end your business association with ISG.
You certainly added some colour to this forum and although I did not necessarily agree with everything which you wrote, you were always interesting and worth reading for that reason alone.
I never visited the Lodge but it was always something which I intended to do.
Unfortunately now no longer possible.
Best of luck.

Giotto,
Just read the news!
I was on my way over there in 2 weeks!
Your place offered more than any other place in Bangkok!
Sorry to see you close.
Will miss times drinking beer at the pool telling lies.
Will miss the German food!
And of course the wonderful hostesses!
Good luck and stay in touch!

Are we finally rid of your ass? Please tell me you will also surrender your account and no longer pollute this board with your Cornichon Stories. I for one am glad this place is finally closed. Now all we need is for you to admit to the mental hospital and there will be balance in the world again.
It's about time you left!

Thanks, man. Same to you, too.
Right now no retirement at all. I am on construction sites all the time, watching bathrooms to be tiled, floors to be finalized, doors to be installed, staircases to be built. And besides that I am running an IT project in Shanghai. Later this your I will most likely have to develop some Apps. I need to select the right development tool for that.
Anyway - hope to see you again one day.

of LL. When the power failed and I had to find my way from my room to the staircase and down, in the blackest of darkness. And then candles leading to the Sports Bar full of lovely hostesses.
May your new life be a good one.

Posts: 490Good Luck and Thank You
Hallo Herr Giotto,
I don't visit ISG too often nowadays, so I initially missed the announcement of your 'retirement'.
I have been staying at LL every year from 2008-2012 for several weeks each time.
This year, a serious health problem made me regretfully cancel my reservation, but it looks as if I'll be able to make it again next January.
But it won't be the same LL!
However good the new owner will be, he cannot (and of course should not even try to) recreate the wonderfull LL atmosphere which so clearly bore your and Som's personal touch and made me feel so at home.
Thank you, Good Luck and enjoy your new life!

And correct, I am a bastard. I run things as I like it, and I don't give a shit what others think about it.
Nevertheless - I was not really successful with the Lodge. And the market has removed me, as it should be. So, basically everything is ok.
Today, btw., I went out at around 9 pm, Arab food in the Soi 3 area. Sat there for a while, had my tea, and headed then to Bangkok Beat in Soi 7/1. Good crowd, and some nice long legs, as I remember - and asses. Wow, not that bad at all.
Left there and walked up Soi 11. Busy. Many young people. More and more girls. The girly business will destroy that road sooner or later, too, as it happened in Soi 33. Was at Oskar's, a fantastic bar / restaurant 2 years ago, but I was not that impressed any more. The crowd has changed, semi-professionals got in, and that does not really fit into Oskar's concept.
Climax then. As expected, all left over mongers in a room with all left-over girls. Good fun! Good band, with the feeling for the crowd. The people were singing. Well done, band.
2 am - sitting at the road around Soi 17. A final pint of Singha and a Chicken Noodle Soup. Now - it's 5 am . Life is bad!
Freedom, here I come!

I stayed a couple of times, hoped to be back some day.
My life has turned out weirder than I ever imagined, and the Lodge has a starring role among the weirder moments.
All the best, Giotto!

Livingstone Lodge was the very first Hotel I stayed in on my first visit to Thailand in October of 2006. I learned about the Hotel from all the rave reviews right here on the ISG forum and was delighted to discover that your place lived up to all my expectations and more. Those are good memories of a great time I won't ever forget.
I had the pleasure of meeting you only twice and both times enjoyed your congenial hospitality and good conversation about places to go and things to do in Bangkok. Livingstone Lodge was an island of western style culture in a sea of Asian exotica and the feeling of welcome you provided your guests was very much appreciated.
Maybe I'm wrong but I can't help but think that things started going downhill with the Lodge when Jackson split you off from the main Thailand forum, giving you your own forum which was almost like the kiss of death. It was bad for the Lodge, bad for you and bad for all your followers on the main forum who enjoyed your many worthwhile contributions.
I sincerely hope that you will enjoy your well earned retirement to the fullest while you are still young enough to do so properly. I was fortunate enough to retire at the age of 49; discovered Thailand and Pattaya – the greatest sex paradise on the planet -- at the age of 60, and these have definitely been the happiest years of my life. Retirement for me is never boring.
I also hope that you will stay on the ISG main Thailand forum and keep contributing your entertaining posts as usual.
Best regards,
Daddy07

Aloha. I cannot believe it, after all this years you are suddenly back. How have you been, BESTARD?
Guys, I don't really go. I just retire and others will run the Lodge. Send me your mail address and names, and we will stay in contact.
Aloha, Pool Guy, thanks for being here with me, right when we started the Lodge as well as now when I leave.

Giotto, I haven't had the opportunity to visit the Lodge for a couple of years, but I never doubted that I would return one day. It seems I need a new plan now.
Please keep us posted about your future plans (and about anything else that you regard as noteworthy). That is, if your new role as early retiree leaves you enough time to write!
All the best,
YY
