I am planning a trip to Juarez next week and I am looking to get a chica for an all nighter. Any suggestions on where to find one?

Almost everytime I drive to the border area at night, the Mexican police pull me over and give me the same BS: "we know you've been drinking and we need to tow your car, bring you to the medical for testing, and after that, bring you to a judge."
None of the MPs are open past 9 which means you have to get there by 8 to have your hour. The law dictates they close by 9.

Regarding your experiences with the police, I think you can bribe them 98% of the time, but I would not risk my liberty having drugs in the car. The penalties usually mean prison, and, if for any reason you cannot bribe your way out of the situation, life as you know it is over for a good long while. There are hundreds of Americans in Mexican prisons for drug offenses, so obviously counting on being able to bribe your way out does not always work. If the offense is drug related, the American Counselate will bring you a toothbrush and a Time Magazine and say bye-bye...

Regarding the cops in a larger sense, the only time I seem to have problems with them is when I go downtown at night and get off into those streets around the ***** bars. I have never been hassled in any other part of the city, and with the work I'm doing for the web site I am on the streets about 5 hours a day Saturdays and Sundays. Kind of amazing how different things are away from the hustle of el centro.

"I now tell them I work for the US government with the Immigration and Naturalization services."

Damn boy, you got a death wish or something? I guess you didn't know that some of the drug families in Juarez have a bounty out for U. S. border officers. And some of these Mexican officers are beholden to some of these families.

Another good alternative is to have a pad and pencil in your hand writing down their name and badge number and if yu can see it, vehicle number. If they're trolling for bribe, many times they'll exchange your license for the information you've written down.

Also, if you're sober, tell them, "Let's go!" or demand to see the commandante or a judge (juez) If they're on the level they'll let you follow them to the station.. Legitimate fines are often much cheaper than the bribe.

On thing to watch out for though is Juarez has a new liability insurance law. Mexican insurance not American and they're enforcing it. Read about that in the El Paso Times sometime ago. No doubt this is going to be a source of revenue for the cops!

Not surprised about the clubs. They've been deteriorationg for some time now.

    ElPasoGentleman,

How quickly one forgets how to romance. Your post was right on, and I now vividly remember doing just that with a woman I cannot have or forget. Danced and sang to her, in fact.

    God, here I go again.

    Short Trip Report

I just returned from Juarez and must agree with the previous posts that the massage parlors are the best option. Here's what I found:

Border area clubs: Too expensive for average women and average service. Other gringos must be catching on to this...most clubs were completely dead.

    Street girls: Poor quality.

    High-end clubs :
Amadeus, Joker, and Phantom have some beautiful women, but it is very difficult to arrange a hotel visit. While you are negotiating, they're ringing-up $10 drink and $10 dances on you. You'll blow $50 without even knowing if you can get them to you're hotel which will cost at least $150 more.

    Massage:
Good selection of women and the price is right ($40 for full service).

I drove past Virtigo dance club several times at night and saw several 10's standing outside each time. Anyone know what would happen if a gringo started buying drinks for these women? Would that [CodeWord140]-off the Mexican guys in the club or the girl you are buying the drinks for? I'm not too familiar with their culture and I'm a little afraid to give this approach a shot without having some info.

Are there any massage places open late (after 9 pm)? I couldn't find any and since I'm there on business, it's difficult for me to find one open when I'm available for some fun.

Almost everytime I drive to the border area at night, the Mexican police pull me over and give me the same BS: "we know you've been drinking and we need to tow your car, bring you to the medical for testing, and after that, bring you to a judge." Then they make obvious references to me giving them a bribe. I've also noticed they always ask where I work in the US. I now tell them I work for the US government with the Immigration and Naturalization services. You would not believe how quickly they get out of there. They know they can get in trouble for what they are doing if they pull-over the wrong guy. I would recommend anyone driving in this area at night have a story ready when and if they pull you over and NEVER pay them anything unless they really do have something serious on you (drugs).

Not any more, but when everone else was dancing from age 15 to 35 I was making the music and never learned to dance myself---to my regret now...

For all you dance wannabes - several years ago I took salsa lessons in Chicago. And the chicks just loved to salso. I even saw one ad in the paper - a lady seeking a salso partner who just wanted to salso all night long. But it was fun for six weeks and then I understood that it would require my either practicing or going out for salso at least three times per week to perfect my routine. And guess what - I did NOT have the time for this. The salsa dance is "in" but I was not interested in persuing a dance routine that took so much time. Now here's the good news, I would hope, for some of you - I gave up my salsa routine and discovered a very effective one that requires very little - but has immediate and powerful impact.
All you do is hold the chica in your arms. While the music is playing, you just gently bounce or rock lightly to the beat of "uno, dos, tres, cuartro" - all the while riveting your eyes into hers. Do not be distracted for one second with the eye contact. Keep your eyes riveted on hers and just sway back and forth - and you might softly say, uno, dos, tres, cuartro with a little smile. Get the feel of the music, the beat the tempo. Give her gentle squeezes from time to time. From there you can converse right smack in her face, eye ball to eye ball, and the solid eye contact will get her juices flowing if you don't distract yourself. You may or may not be surprized at how many chicks get off so to speak with the one in one hundred guys who know how to establish and maintain eye contact. You won't get all sweaty from swinging all around the floor as well. Save the sweat for the bedroom. I guarantee you'll score with this if you can repeat this dance routine with the same gal for a number of times (hell, I don't know how many times - but probably more than one dance).
Give me some feedback on this. I did this with one gal in the Zona and was shocked to learn she did NOt know how to dance. She was very embarrassed as I led her to the dance floor and ther were only 4-5 people in the place. After gently rocking to the beat, and doing the Uno, dos, tres thing, she very quickly calmed down and said something like, "Oh, is this all there is to it?" Now I don't consider my self a romeo, but I am confident that this simple technique is the answer for many.

I am TOTALLY dance impaired, which is interesting because I am a musician in addition to my "normal" gig. So the "dancing is better than sex" refer from a few posts back was a dagger to me.

Questions: does one need to DANCE or just make the attempt?
Dance lessons are almost out of the question for me given there are only 24 hours to a day.

To further muddle the waters,I'm guessing fast is preferable to slow to begin with, and that's where my problem lies.

    Cumbia? a nightmare! (ha)

Buenhombre: Wow...Thanks a lot for your extremely thorough report! All you wrote will be extremely useful to me; as I suspect it will be to anyone else on this site who's thinking about going into the interior.

Dreaming Eagle: I just picked this dance instructor out of the yellow page here in L.C. If she seems good I'll send you her name, etc. at your hotmail site.

    Adios amigos!

Last time I was in Zacatecas was 2 summers ago. I went to the compound during mid-week, so it was slower than usual. Most of the cantinas had a few gorditas, but there was one huge & classy cantina that had a large stage with a dance floor in front. There were about 40 chicas sitting around the outer edge of the table area. Lots of 7s, 8s & 9s. I don’t remember the name of this club, but you can’t miss it - it has the most clients & chicas. You can walk around the whole compound in about 5 minutes. Anyway, at this club, you asked the girls to have a drink with you and quite a few of them would go up and dance with some of the dudes. I think it was a dime-a-dance type setup where they would give them a few pesos after the dance. I had gone there with 2 newbies from my school (Spanish immersion) and they were kind of stunned by the whole setup. After a while a pretty good floor show started. A drop-dead gorgeous chica would do her first dance on the stage in a bathing suit then the second number in her birthday suit. About 6 chicas took part in the strip show, then the lights would go up and the other girls would go back to dancing with the clients. I asked 3 cute chicas to join us for drinks (don’t remember the cost, but it wasn’t much) and ended up spending the evening (just talking) with a little cutie who works as a singer in a traveling mariachi group. I didn’t bother to check out prices for the room trip, but they did have them - every now & then a guy would step out with his chica, then stream back in after a while. I was content talking to my chica - she said that most of the girls there would come in from the surrounding towns to pickup a few dollars - unknown to their families. She herself claimed to go work there about 3 times a year when funds were low. It was obvious that most of the chicas weren’t hard core hookers. I probably would have taken her to a room, but the guys I was with were stunned enough that I asked the chicas to have drinks... although they didn’t complain. I left about 2:30 AM and the place was still hopping . I found it kind of surreal, well worth the effort, even though I didn’t get laid.... Don’t worry about a ride home, lots of cabs wait outside the clubs.

In Zacatecas I stayed a kind of a posh hotel right across the street from the Palace. I don’t usually live so high on the hog, but work was picking up the tab. Even though it was high-end the price was still reasonable - somewhere around $45 a night. If you really want to go upscale, they have a hotel that has been build on a bullring - talk about elegant. Didn’t bother pricing this place, but did walk through it and had a beer in the lounge. You can actually get drinks served in the previous toro holding stalls (cleaned up) While I was in Zacatecas, I did drop into a few lower-end places and checked out prices & availability for when I go back and found that there are many clean, functional places to be had in the $15 -$20 range. Food was also reasonable - there’s a Argentina steak restaurant near the center of town that has unreal steaks. I had a filet migon that must have been a pound & a half plus 2 beers for about $7.
I like Juarez & spends lots of time there because I live in El Paso, but it still has a bit of an edge that you don’t get in the interior of Mexico. Prices are cheaper and if you go to a non-tourist place - you’ll find you are unique & its kind of fun being different.
When I was walking at the market in Zacatecas a woman called me over to her candy booth and gave me a small bag of candy. She said (in Spanish) “welcome to Zacatecas American, I hope you enjoy your stay”. She then called over some of the sweet young things that worked in her section to “meet the American” . They stood there staring and giggling - it was a trip!

Cumbia lessons huh? Good idea , vale la pena (its worth the effort). Without a doubt its the most natural way I have found to meet a chica in a strange land. I mean, they want you to approach them... not a bad situation.

Hey, that gives me a great idea for a page under the nightlife section on the JTG web site: dance lessons!

Not to mention it probably being the next best thing to sliced bread when it comes to meeting local chicas.

Would you might sharing where you are taking the lessons?

    Buenhombre:

Thanks for your reply. Everyone I've talked to who has riden the buses in Mexico has the same impression as you.

As for your experience in Zacatecas: can you give us some more information on your visit in the "compound?" I know things change quickly, but were there some good looking chicas there? Were any of the places "nice" (relatively speaking), or were they all dumps? Can you recommend any particular places to stay in Zacatecas? If I can pull this trip off, this is probably where I'll end up spending most of my time. I understand that the hobbyist scene is almost non-existant in Mazatlan; and I am certain I want to avoid the touristy places like Puerto Vallarta; although I'm sure my options for getting laid would be much greater there. But there is more to life than just getting laid (I can't believe I just wrote that!).

This may also interest you: all this talk about the dance scene has intrigued to such a degree that I'm taking a cumbia lesson on Friday! I guess maybe I do have some kick left in me after all!

For the last few summers I’ve been taking the buses all over Mexico and have never had any problems. Most of them are Mercedes units with air-conditioning, comfortable seats, bathrooms & they even show movies - usually US action/drama along the way. The drivers are very professional - they seem to have the same prestige as airline pilots in the US. Its my favorite way to travel in Mexico! They tend to stop at lots of small towns along the way, which I always find interesting. Make sure you get your permiso (travel permit) before you go, then once you get to where your going have it stamped at a designated bank (listed on back of permiso) - the stamp will cost you about $20. Every now and then armed federales come on the bus looking for drug smugglers or illegals from South America. They usually poke through a few bags and ask some of the passengers a few questions. I’ve been asked where I’m going and I’ve been asked to show my permiso.
As far as mongering activities I’ve found that even the “conservative” cities have a zona within a one hour drive. For example, when I went to Zacatecas we had a cab driver take us to the “compound” which was about 5 miles out of town. Once there you get searched for weapons before you go through a gateway into a circular compound which is ringed by cantinas and cheap rooms.
Chihuahua is a great city to visit, only because it is so close ~ 4 hours, but I haven’t had time to checkout the mongering activities because I’ve always gone with an amiga.
Another option for finding the mongering opportunities in the various cities is to check out the local newspapers. Last summer when I was in Leon, I discovered a few very nice massage parlors on the outskirts of town this way. Anyway, good luck on your trip, I’m sure you’ll have a great time.

Some friends of mine have suggested Mazatlan, Zacatecas, and Chapala, because they consider them to be worthy vacation destinations, for a variety of reason. I'll probably be taking a bus from Juarez, so these places are about the furtherest distance I'd care to travel.

Here's the problem: none of my friends knows about my hobbyist activities, and I'd hate to spend an entire vacation without some "assured" female companionship. Any advice/words of wisdom from the knowlegeable folks here? I'm looking for advice on places to stay as well as places (esp. MPs) to visit the chicas.

I am also going to put in an inquiry on the appropriate regions on the WSG; but I ask here because many of you guys are extremely informed and reliable on all things Mexican.

You can reply to me here, or, if you prefer, at rogeriusrex@hotmail.com.
Good luck and be sure to report back.
