Thank you for your work at translating and posting the Diario article. We see and discuss many aspects of the hobby and give consideration to the possibilities of dieseases but rarely do we have some true statistical insight.

A wake up call or slap in the face is just what we need. It is much better than the alternative.

When I go out to hobby or gather information on the latest for my website I make mental notes of how many ladies are present. The numbers given in the article seem a bit much but for the sake of our health I will not doubt them. But I speculate this, the ladies are very diligent about condom use and many members of LOJ are very conscious about condom use. I have encountered very few risk takers.

I suspect the ladies that become infected is a result of their worthless boyfriends fooling around. Any guy that sends his woman to work like that isn't the greatest type of person in the world.

The ladies who I have encountered that are sloppy (or eager) about being poked without a rubber raise this red flag with me; they are either pregnant or know they have the shit. This increases awareness with me.

The current dates given by the US government are:

December 31, 2005: A passport or other accepted document will be required for all air/sea travel to or from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Central and South America.

December 31, 2006: A passport or other accepted document will be required for all air/sea travel to or from Mexico and Canada.

December 31, 2007: A passport or other accepted document will be required for all air/sea AND land border crossings.

The "Smart Passport" is already being processed and there are plans for a frequent crosser type card as well.

Last I heard that was the original proposal, but after Bush saw it he ordered that it be studied more.

I thought this article might be of interest to the forum. It is nice to know that the ladies are taking care of themselves, but it certainly reinforces the need to keep that guy covered at all times.

The health unit II of the State Health Dept. provided attention to 218 sex workers during the first three months of the year. They were given a monthly vaginal exam to screen for STDs, but were not issued any health cards, said Alvaro Valenzuela Grajeda, assistant director.

He explained that the illness most frequently seen are minor infections that can be cured, most frequently found is genital candidiasis, a fungus that can occur with a lack of hygiene and stress, among other factors.

The next most common is trichomoniasis, a more severe infection. The doctor said that sex workers are seen once a month and at predetermined times they are tested for HIV and cancer.

He added that persons with positive results are provided free treatment.

He stated that last year 1,259 cases of candidiasis were detected, down from 1,871 in 2003. There were 897 women with trichomoniasis in 2004 and 829 in 2003.

Infections of gonnorhea and syphilis were found, but in fewer cases.

For example, in 2003 there were nine sex workers with syphillis and seventeen last year. In 2003 there were 49 cases of gonnorhea and eleven in 2004, said the doctor.

He explained that the sex workers on their own go to the SES clinic where they inform the doctors of their occupation which permits them to maintain records of previous visits.

Eighty percent of them go to the clinic in the downtown area.

Valenzuela said that other tests are given twice a year for cervical/uterine cancer or hepatitis C and once a year for AIDS. The results of these exams are kept separately from those of the general population and were not revealed.

He explained that the State Health Dept. does not issue any sort of health card to the sex workers. They attend the clinic on their own once a month or whenever they feel a checkup is needed.

Asimismo, se presentaron otras infecciones y gonorrea y sífilis, aunque en menores casos.

Explicó que las trabajadoras sexuales acuden por su propia voluntad a los Centros de Salud de los SES donde notifican a los médicos cual es su ocupación, a fin de tener un registro para las consultas posteriores.

El 80 por ciento de ellas va a la unidad de salud que se encuentra en la zona Centro.

Valenzuela dijo que unas dos veces al año se practican otras pruebas como de cáncer cervicoúterino o hepatitis C, y una vez al año de sida, pero los resultados de esos exámenes no los tiene separados de los del resto de la población en general, por lo que no pudo darlos a conocer.

Explicó que los Servicios Estatales de Salud no proporcionan alguna credencial de salud a los sexoservidoras, ellas acuden por su voluntad cada mes, o cuando deseen pertinente ir a revisión.

I am much more intensely alarmed, disgusted, and sickened by the fact that starting January 1, we must carry a US Passport to walk over the bridge. Don't know about MX (and you can be sure it will change for the worse), but currently in Costa Rica the black market rate for a stolen US Passport is $400US. I'm going to feel alot less safe carrying the damn obvious gringo-block-o-gold in the ciudad next year. Thanks alot, W.

Anyway, while having a couple of after session beers, the bar was visited by the Juarez policia. They lined up all the girls and were doing an ID check for minors. I actually think they just came in for entertainment purposes. Most of the policia were just walking around with big smiles on their faces while a couple of the others were checking the ID's. You're right, absolutely no sense of humor. These guys team up with Policia Municipal a couple of times yearly to make weapons and drug sweeps at the bars. Another thing about them, too...they are a lot harder to talk into a mordita since Fox has been in office. Steer a wide path, if possible.
