Amen brother! The buses of Juarez are the best! Just hold up your hand and flag one down, they most always stop. Hell, after a session, needing to pass some time before contemplating the next slice, I often get on a bus just to see where it goes and learn more of the town. They all cost 4 pesos, which you pay upon boarding (except for the 8-A, which I take to Marilyns, which collects upon departure, who knows why?!). They list major stops/destinations on the front window. Damn near everyone of them returns back downtown.

What's even better are the people you encounter on the buses. Everyone rides the buses and they are in general a very friendly lot. You get a view of the real life of the ciudad and its wonderful. The only spanish you might want to use is "baja!" ("pull over," literally, "get down," which works very well with most chicas also btw) which you yell when you want the bus driver to stop and let you off. Man, the only time I'd take a cab was at night after the buses stop running!

Actually they are more diligent at checking ID while walking back. Driving they just run plate numbers but may on occassion ask for ID. Before 9/11 this was not really the case but after the attacks not just in Juarez but alot of Americans were stuck across the border because of probation and warrants. On the Club ****** board they were refered to as "warrant refugees".

Now really the best advise I have to give is, don't jeopardize your freedom for a night of fun. Do your time and when it is over, go get some.

Seriously - I don't know enough to converse and had no problem getting to & from VMP from Ave Juarez.

What I did, armed with info from here, was to go to the bus stop at the end of Ave Juarez and get on the Ruta Circunvalacion bus. It goes down Escobar which branches off to the left as you go. What I did was watch the street signs. Right after Costa Rica is Panama. That's right bt VMP. Even if you miss it and go as far as the park that will be on your left it's only 3 blocks or so away.

On the return I THINK just about any bus will get you back. I looked for El Centro or Cathedral on the bus window and ended up coming back and then down Franco Villa. That's the next block over from Ave Juarez - the other side from the bar area.

Believe me brother, if I can do it you can do it. After one round trip you'll feel like the master of your domain and start wanting to go places.
