Euro vs. Dollar:

Many prices in Russia are already shown in Euro, for the reasons mentioned by others below particularly the fact that the majority of their imports come from Euro-based economies.

Nonetheless, I hope that the p4p scene remains dollar based and the fact that many Russians still earn dollars does give me hope that prices will stay in dollars for awhile to keep the point of reference for the dollar-minded Russians the same. Moreover, I think the Russians expect the dollar and euro to approach a 1:1 exchange rate over time, give or take 10%.

I earn Euros, which is bad for export business from Europe, but the high exchange rate has made my mongering expenses 30% cheaper...so I'm happy. Just 2 years ago the dollar-euro exchange rate favored the dollar heavily, so what comes around goes around.

DIT: I think its inevitable that Russia moves away from the dollar. Part of that will be to a more EUR based system, but they are even beginning to price things in Rubles now. They have used the dollar for decades because they had no faith in their own money. Now russians are (a) losing faith in the dollar as a s tore of value and (b) gaining faith in the ruble as a stable unit. Most of their imports are from Europe and priced in Euros, so passing the price on to consumers as a function of dollars just doesnt make sense anymore.

As for the working girls.... well the price of everything in Moscow is going up rapidly in dollar terms (but fairly stable in Euro or GBP terms) so again, its inevitable that cost increases in living expenses for the girls will be passed on to the consumer (if the consumer is thinking in dollar terms).

Question: The Euro is now rising strong against the dollar. Ended at 1.26 on Friday. Russia uses the Rouble, but has always liked dollars because it's what we bring, and was more stable. Every Russian Girl site currently lists there prices in dollars.

Now I hear that the Duma wants to switch key products and Service's prices to the Euro. In other words, it sounds like the working girls are supposed to follow suit. Is that true?

Does that mean when I head over there soon that I will have to exchange my greenbacks for overpriced Euros, and now pay 150E at NF instead of 150us? 188 dollars if you were to exchange for it today.
