The Ukraine is by all acounts one of the worst hotels for westerners in Moscow.

I stayed there for a couple of nights last month, the rooms aren't that bad, I've certainly stayed in worse.

The only night I decided to try the in-house talent, there were 5 or 6 WG sitting around the bar, between 6-9 in looks.

MOA... getting to the Hotel Ukraina from Domodedovo is realtively simple. I would take the train in (leaves every hour, on the hour) which takes 40 minutes and arrives at Paveletskaya. The simplest thing to do then is to go outside and get a gypsy cab. Wave down an old Lada / Zhiguli and offer the driver money to take you to the GasTEEnitsa UkraINa. You could probably get it for well under a hundred rubles if you bargain long and hard enough but maybe if you are new to it its just better to offer the guy 200 and not have to stuff around too much.

If you are travelling light, you could take a brown line metro from Paveletskaya to Kievskaya (10 rubles I think these days) and just walk from Kievskaya to the Ukraine Hotel. You cant miss it, its an impressive building.

Lovely building though - one of Stalins Seven Sisters I have once seen one of the rooms there and promised myself I would never stay there. Lime green bed sheets that didnt fit, bed bugs, soviet era fittings. Its a classic.

I would be glad to hear your review once you get back from there to see it anything has changed. But one of the big frustrations with the place has apparently it has been under the control of the 90s era russian mafia types who unlike most of their like who have moved on to become business billionaires, those who control the Ukraine dont have enough money to do it up.

You will need to bribe security to bring in outside girls ($20 - $50)

ATMs are a better option and many offer dollars, rubles and I think some even offer euros.

You can pay the taxi with anything, rubles or dollars.

Change a few dollars at the airport, but then change the rest in the city. Change booths are everywhere... Good rate now is 29.2 to 29.25. Watch out for the variable currency... one rate posted but another rate given. Also I've seen some places drop a full ruble and leave the tenths the same so the drunks come out and look at the tenths and don't notice they are getting 28.2 instead of 29.2...

At SVO today the rate was 28.5 but they may charge commission on top of that.
